Twitter just seems like a bad medium in general. Too brief to say anything meaningful, and when you try to say something meaningful it's meaning is fuzzy. Like trying to text message an important piece of information, I'd rather just call.

Agreed. He should really be pontificating on Facebook. :jimlad:

“I think everybody should understand this situation is about being medically logical,â€￾ White said. “This is not about the Rockets trying to screw me over or the me trying to screw the Rockets over.â€￾/QUOTE]

So that's why you bad mouth them on Twitter?? :wideeyed:

Are you seriously saying that flying and travel isn't the primary issue with Royce with his situation now. Allot of posters are comparing his success at ISU and what Fred did to his situation with the NBA. That's like comparing apples and oranges. 30-35 games in college with 1 game a week with 82 regular season NBA games + playoffs and 3 sometimes 4 games a week and flights all over the US.
.."The Houston Rockets power forward suffers from generalized anxiety disorder, the most serious complication of which is an extreme fear of flying."

Yes, I am saying that because Royce has been saying that. Go look it up.
He continually says that it's not about travel, but it's about some protocol recommended by his doctors and refused by the Rockets.

We don't really know what the protocol is, but it's about transparency. This scenario is not about travel and never has been.

From the link posted just above: "White remained vague on the details about what he wants, save to say it was about how he is handled by the organization. He said the travel situation was not at the heart of the issue now. He also said that he did not report to the D-League because that was a change from the plans he and the team had been working on (something the team has denied)."

It seems that Royce is making too much of his condition. It is one thing to try (and experience the difficulties of his condition) and another to refuse to try because "protocols" aren't in place, particularly when "protocols" seem like letting him do what he wants.

Or maybe I just don't get it and that is what he is advocating for. If so, I still think he could have much more impact if he presented himself like he was trying and had some success in the NBA, then forced the advocacy issue.

It would be interesting to see a few samples of what "protocols" might look like. All I can imagine is Royce being able to do what he wants. But would those "protocols" include any protection for the team when he is "disabled" and not able to play on short notice?

It would also be interesting to hear from some medical professionals in this field who understand the issue about "protocols," but don't like the way Royce is going about this. It seems that Royce's doctors may be more interested in advocacy for the cause as they are for Royce's health.

That's nice and all, but consider this tweet from Royce:

He's saying travel isn't the issue - it's the mysterious protocol.

He doesn't clarify that travel isn't still an issue. It just says that "traveling conditions" have been settled but non medical professionals are making medical decisions. What specifically is this in regards too. How and when he flies vs. taking his customized John Madden Greyhound.

After reading this article of the interview that Royce did for Sirius XM on Jan. 3 It appears that Royce really wants control, when he makes statements of how his condition should be handled by professionals. At the end of the interview Royce does make the statement "White admitted there is a chance he would never play in the NBA. He said it worked in college because there were fewer games and far less travel he had 15 flights in college, there were 96 scheduled flights for the Rockets this season."

Listen to the interview Royce did on Sirius XM January 3rd and decide if travel isn't an issue.

.." At Iowa State I took 15-20 flights a years compared to 96 flights in the NBA, that's a big difference for somebody that has a plane phobia" !

He said, "I expressed that that's really unsafe if you think about it."

Can't help thinking about the comparison with Jake Knott playing with one shoulder. Now Knott may have taken the biggest risk of his life and ruined his chance for the NFL, so I'm not holding him as the premier example of what to do. However, he clearly exemplifies the "I will do whatever I can for the team" approach.

I wish we were hearing more from Royce about how he will do everything he can to play and make the best contribution possible. This would seem to be the "protocol" that is missing on his side.

I totally agree. He will never play one minute for the Rockets. Got his guaranteed money, and then went crazy with the anti-flying stuff. He flew last year.

In the article Royce says travel is not the heart of the issue and later he says there is a chance he might not play in the NBA because of the travel. This is why I have a hard time understanding what is going on because there doesn't seem to be any clear direction of what is wanted versus what is expected. I do wish him well though.
