If you “don’t have to be told to do good for college football” then you know you probably aren’t.

"But Congress will step in before this whole thing blows up!" - Cyclone Fanatic since realignment started 15 years ago
I've been reliably assured on this very board that the House Settlement is going to be perfect and solve all the problems.

Sankey and Petitti are going to run to the networks to get all CFB rights together for 70 teams.

I used to have faith that the political system would keep the NCAA, conferences and colleges somewhat in line. I no longer have that faith. Congress can't agree on anything, and it doesn't take that many of them to block and destroy anything of merit getting thru.

So, you are left with the legal red tape. And that means lawyers. So, basically we are forked.

Quite frankly the political system has no business in college athletics and needs to stay the **** out of it

The problem is, entities get a chance to self regulate. If they fail, the government often steps in. The NCAA failed to self regulate years ago and now the train is off the tracks.

I understand that, but congress has real issues to deal with. Quite frankly as much as I love college sports it's not important enough for Congress to get involved in.

Probably just to get some good press

You guys do realize the SEC would love this scenario. They'd have gotten 6 teams in last year and the big 12 would have had 1 team in.

Yes. But they still wouldn’t have been able to setup their 3 game play-in tournament during CCG, which will devalue the Big12 and ACC CCG.

The Big12 had a bad year last year, there is no debating that. So making decisions on a 1 year sample is dangerous. In the long run, we need BYU to become the banner school of the conference. They have the fan base and history to be one of those blue blood schools that can be in the national conversation every year. Then, we need another team to step up each season to compete for spots in the CFP. That is the model that will make the Big12 successful. Giving in to the P2 plan will just make that model harder to achieve.

In terms of who wins and loses games, college sports isn't important at all.

In terms of the economic impacts to cities and states, it's wildly important and very much fits the definition of interstate commerce.

The economic damage that could be inflicted on large chunks of the country by the actions of the SEC and or Big 10 is very much something that would be within Congress's purview and interest to address. If there was anything else with this kind of economic impact attached to it that had more inherent value in the product, there would be no questioning whether or not Congress should intervene.

I welcome their intervention, especially in a space like this where isn't a red vs blue schism and they could have an actual tangible impact.

This would not be good for Iowa State or the Big XII. Having 2 guaranteed spots is much better than 1 and a maybe not.

This is a classic "we'll come up with a sh*ttier idea than our original ****** idea so that you end up accepting our ****** idea we proposed in the first place" scenario.
