I am planning on going to the game in Austin. Any organized travel associated with that game?

Pretty clear that the intent of this thing is fleecing bigger donors with the opportunity to spend time together.

Glad to have big donors and all, but it seems like there should be a more inclusive price point that encourages donations/participations across the different levels.

The intent of the these trips is to provide an opportunity to support ISU Football with a competitively priced travel package, any "profit" goes straight to the football program.

Just checked Expedia and for the same hotel and air, Expedia's price was $875 without adding in the alumni tailgate, transportation and game ticket. Overall a good value for the product/service, not trying to fleece anyone.

Since you're not saying the name of the hotel, I'm assuming it's a higher-priced hotel than most of us tend to stay at.

I've got the trip booked for under $400 without a game ticket... can't imagine I'll pay more than $40 for one

I suspect there will be a large Cyclone contingent there, given ticket availability. Lot of ISU grads, especially Engineering, end up in DFW area. should be a good get together.

If you want to go cheaper, do it. That's not the point of this thread.

I've never been a member of this group, nor have I ever traveled with them, but I've heard nothing but good things about it. This group does great things for our program so I would think some of you would back off.

I agree with this. Of course there are cheaper options but that's not always the point of the Gridiron Club. It's about the cause but I will say this. I traveled with the club to New York last year for the Pinstripe Bowl. You cannot put a price on the convenience of going charter with group like that on a trip like that.

Having said that, stateofmind is right. If you can't afford to go on the trip of don't want to go this route, that's fine. Trips like these aren't for everyone. But attacking Iowa State football's booster club for trying to put together a great trip is too much IMO.

Truth - I'm sure it's a great time and I hope I can be involved at some point (once ISU debt is paid off... which might be 2045)

Well sure, but the question is, what is the goal? Is the goal to raise money for the CGC or is the goal to have more cyclones in seats? When the CGC only puts together packages that often cost double what an average person could put together for themselves (without even taking into account the savings a large group could manage), its obvious that the focus is on the money. The problem is, especially around bowl time, the 'we want as many cyclone fans there as possible' message is what is trumpeted, but those words don't live up to the actions done by these sort of group trips.
