When looking at some of these schools people are considering to be "lesser" like CSU, Cincy, and UCONN...we're talking 10 years down the road, schools come up, athletic programs come up. Bowlsby would be taking a stab at the future here, not trying to win the present.

Chris, I agree with your analysis that the ultimate list will include more attractive options and that the Big 12 might even go above 12 teams. I'd love to see them poach FSU, Clemson, Louisville and Pittsburgh from the ACC. FSU & Clemson have "big brother" issues with their in-state SEC "sister" schools as well as issues with the dominance of MBB within the ACC and there might just be a chance to lure them to a more FB oriented conference. It should be interesting to watch whether any of these schools and others put their names in the hat for Big 12 expansion consideration.

Take 2 of Cincy, UConn, and CSU and I'll be happy

Surprised Memphis isn't on the list. They would make sense.

Would Iowa allow ISU in the Big - that always looked like a logical place to me? Certainly could see Ku going there. OU to the SEC without doubt. UT to wherever they choose, but probably not the SEC due to academic concerns and aTm veto. The remainder are pretty much screwed. Had the Big 12 folded, K-State was headed to the then-Big East.

If Big 12 won't take UConn because of football then WHY would the Big Ten take Kansas?

Cincy makes me puke in my mouth. Big 12 ceases to exist with adds like these. Will also hurt our recruiting in Ohio where we are starting to get traction.
I know a lot of you can't see the forest through the trees and are knee jerk in you reaction we need to expand with subpar candidates, but this is not a good move for ISU.

Which candidates are available that you consider to be superior?

What makes Cincinnati so "subpar"?

Colorado State makes a ton of sense. 32,300 students (ISU has 36,000). Huge alumni base, building a brand new football stadium, brings back the Colorado market, land grant university...they would fit in VERY well.

I've been saying this for years, CSU is in the running for Big 12 expansion. Especially since the announcement of the football stadium. The stadium really wasn't necessary for a Mountain West team, especially one who didn't regularly sell out their small stadium. But the fact of the matter is, whenever CSU plays a "good" team, the place is packed (recently this has been Boise State, and earlier TCU when in MWC). Lots of Big 12 alums are in the area as well, like my wife and I, and many of our friends here, and we would probably get season tickets if CSU joined the Big 12. Point is, I think the new stadium was built solely to be an attractive pick to the Big 12.

After receiving my BS and MS at Iowa State, and PhD at Colorado State, I can assure that there would be great fits in terms of academics and research. The Universities are very similar, although I do view ISU being more teaching focused (i.e. better value) than CSU for undergrads.

I would love to host an ISU tailgate every other year! Bad part is that I don't want Fort Collins to be flooded with Texans every other weekend in the fall. There's already enough of them blocking up the ski lift lines.

Iowa will not go to bat for ISU in the Big Ten. They've proven that already. It's too bad, too, because the Big Ten (at least pre-Maryland/Rutgers) was the ideal geological and cultural fit for ISU, but that train sailed 80 years ago. Now, if it were possible to kick Iowa out of the Big Ten and take us in their place, we'd probably have a few allies inside that conference in making that happen. But Iowa is golden, and they won't help us.

Isn't it hard to say any of the options are "superior"? The Big Ten, ACC, PAC and SEC all went on an adding spree. None of the left overs were chosen.

TV sets aside, do you think Rutgers is a superior choice to UCONN?

Rutgers is a goddam dumpster fire on almost every level, but the Big Ten has to get respect for one thing - making money.

Their competition sucks but their network is top shelf. So I'd have faith in the Big Ten's choice in that area.

So you are left with choosing the remainder......unless you can poach from the Power Conferences. IMO, those teams are not available. So make your choice of what is available.

Just makes me want to yawn. Expanding for expansion sake just does nothing but delay the inevitable. Change will continue and ISU will survive,....maybe even thrive. Someday.
