Not unheard of though, Richard Pitino was head coach of Minnesota at 30 after one year of head coaching experience.
He started as an assistant in the G league in 2017. It doesn't look like he has coached at the college level in any capacity. He's probably never even recruited a player. And he's not a Cyclone legend, so you cant sell that to the fanbase this time. It would be a surprise to say the least, but whatever.

Why would Prohm accept anything less than what he was owed? He had all the leverage.

The "mutually agreed to part ways" language indicates we came to a settlement agreement lower than the total buyout number.

Prohm benefits because he knew next year would be a struggle and further damaging to his future career opportunities. Additionally, I'm sure it was taking a mental toll on him and his family. A fresh start definitely benefited both parties in this case.

Most of the time it's never publicly released who was interviewed. So why would Pollard care about doing token interviews that people never know about to claim a search was done?

Because in especially 2021 at many large organizations and companies there's an ever increasing thing called compliance and also ethics reviews around various things. If not done at the time, then possibly in an audit later.

Been there, done that. Sometimes even when you have your guy without needing to do interviews, you do interviews with other people just so you don't have to deal with the above later....which Is a gigantic pain in the ass. And depending on the rules could even get you fired if you did enough against the established rules on purpose.

I don't imagine that a university like ISU these days is the wild west where you can get away with doing whatever you please. Maybe if ISU was a company of 25 people then sure.

If TJ is ultimately not hired I think we might be able to look back to the UNLV article as the primary reason. It was likely very embarrassing that this appeared to be a done deal so quickly. I imagine JP might now be slowing things down and presenting a pool of candidates to the President. It would not go over well to the larger University if it appears there was absolutely no attempt made to consider a diverse pool because most hiring situations in higher education require that there be an opportunity to consider a broad pool of candidates. Ultimately, TJ will probably be hired. But the timing of that UNLV article likely made JP at least show that he had considered other possibilities.

Hoiberg and Campbell were likely the only candidates interviewed when they were hired.

Does anyone consider that in the age of Zoom etc that some of the interviews could have gone on a while ago when the seasons were still going on and maybe this sped up the process?

Yeah and I'm sure at the time it was OK. Things at a lot of large organizations and companies have changed in the last few years. Especially anywhere that has any sort of moderate or high regulation around it.

I recently had an internal person want to xfer to one of my teams from another organization. Interviewed them..all good. Accepted them to the team. When I went to do the actual xfer to me, nope. Turns out the new rules say I have to actually post a job, deal with recruiters,, keep it out there for a few weeks, and actually interview anyone who applies who is legitimately and objectively qualified against the requirements in the job posting. Even 5 years ago i wouldnt have had to do that. Starting in 2019 and 2020...yup, have to do it.

Basketball is completely dead at ISU so no need to stress really. Thank God Texas
I wish I received free money from the government
Yeah I don’t know why they keep sending us the money we don’t need. Well I figured I should go spend I guess. I wish you were close by I would buy you a beer. I actually don’t feel bad spending it because I paid a lot in taxes and after I won a few thousands in a lottery? I paid the feds $7000 in taxes so let me enjoy this money, it’s MINE.

Yeah the taxes thing is why I wish, LOL. Unfortunately we don't qualify for that $$, but I guess first world problems. Getting a "free" vacation somewhere would be nice though.

This thread is now completely off the rails.
