If MC is successful, that will mean ISU football will be successful. Are you afraid of success? I mean, what exactly do you want.
If u are insinuating from my inference of what MC is doing as being negative then you are incorrect.

I've come to grips of the nature of the coaching profession and I hold no illusions that If MC wins here that he'll stay. I also welcome the success that me may bring and hope that by doing so gives us the necessary momentum to carry on when he leaves.

However you know there is going to be a large contingent that gets bent out of shape and cry about ethics and loyalty when he does what he's doing to Toledo to us.

I'll take a stab at the whole staff, since there's been some questions:

HC- Matt Campbell (Toledo)
Off Co. & QBs- Jason Candle (Toledo)
OLine- Tom Manning(Toledo)
TE & Recruiting Co- Alex Golesh (Illinois)
RBs- Ayeni (retained)

CBs- DK McDonald (Toledo)
LBs- Tyson Veidt (Toledo)

S&C- Rudy Wade (Toledo)

Looks like Mitchell Moore is being retained as well.

I like the Campbell hire and am super excited for him being here. My only concern from the press conference was when a question was asked, something about playing in the rigors of the Big 12 , he said something like well, football is football and we (Toledo) did pretty good when we went into the SEC and beat Arkansas and into the Big 12 [and beat us, although not expressly stated as such! :) ].

Well, no, not all conferences are equal. The Big 12 isn't the MAC.

I couldn't help but think, "yeah, but here at ISU you don't get to play Ball State, Kent State, and 3 directional Michigan schools every year." If we win 6 games regular season games next year, it will be a quite successful season, and 7 wins would be historic and record setting. How will this staff handle it when we go through a rough stretch to powerhouse teams and lose 3 in a row? They've been at or near the top of the MAC and that's all they've ever known... Would a more diverse staff be able to make the game-to-game adjustments?

It's just a concern, I don't have any special insight or anything.

I just took it as a winners mentality. He isn't intimidated by his opponents. He doesn't care who he is lining up against because he puts his pants on the same way every one else does. I feel that people who strive for greatness are looking for those moments. Much like Matt said himself greatness is a choice. He also said you can't just talk it, you have to show it. He showed it last year. Remember Arkansas was ranked #18 and he went into their house and beat them.

I also love the coaching hires he has made. He is basically cherry picking his staff right now, because very obviously he has networked well and been planning for this for some time. The guy is absolutely hitting the ball out of the park right now.

I mean look at how quickly the recruits are noticing this change. The guy is plugged in and definitely tearing up some bridges on his way to Ames. He either is completely lying about wanting to be here, or could be what we are all hoping for. Whether he wins or not I have no idea.

To me, a winners mentality will trump this. I believe he will fight like hell not to lose. Like he said, greatness is a choice.... So there is no difference if it is a Mac team or big12 team. When you play to win, you will most likely will win. He will turn it around, I have faith in him.

I understand your concerns completely.

BUT... there is a big difference between the MAC and the B12. And one huge difference is the ability to get in front of a different class of player as a recruiter.

It seems to me that he understands that. His hires so far have all seemed to be excellent recruiters.

We'll see how this goes, but I am all in on Campbell.

Do you suppose anyone from Kansas looks at the process of hiring Matt Campbell here, and is mad about Kansas settling for David Beatty?

I am thinking about supply and demand market economics. The best coaches get paid what they are worth or they go elsewhere. Higher paid coaches are better than lower paid coaches according to market theory. So why are higher paid coaches being replaced by lower paid coaches who then are paid the same as the coaches they are replacing? it just doesn't seem like we are getting the best return on investment.
