I totally agree. I went to the last ISU game in Manhattan and really liked how their bowled in end zone looked. It needs to happen at Jack Trice...hopefully in the next 5 years or so it can be done

Yea, the "hillsides is for families" argument makes me angry. There are plenty of ways to accommodate families while bowling in south end.

For whatever reason, GoShow hates the south endzone, and completely fails to understand the long term necessity for one. There's no point in trying to get it through his head that the south endzone isn't about us not having enough capacity, it's about making our facilities on par with the rest of the conference, which is a lot more important than he realizes.

Plenty of places to move that to.

And for some reason you can't grasp simple economics. There is a reason that the stadium has not been bowled in and it is directly related to the fact that JTS is rarely sold out and historically always has had enough seats for anyone who wanted one. Barring a big time doner the simple economics dictate that it not be bowlwd in, its real simple you need to fill the space you have now consitantly, until then the limited dollars ISU has available to invest are better spent elswhere.

Nice try on trying to spin it towards facilities. If it is facility driven need then upgrade the football training/weight/building etc. Some peeps on here make it sound like JTS is a dump - which it clearly is not- and by bowling in the endzone all of the football programs problems and shortfalls will be magically fixed.

Bowling in the endzone has to be about increasing revenue through increased attendance- not making a certain sect of fans feel better about themselfs.

Someone please answer why it has not been bowled in already. WHY?

Couldn't it be better to lower ticket prices and get more people in the stands. Usually when price goes down, more people buy. Make it a buyer's market (fan's market) and the stadium could be pretty full. 43,000 fans at a higher price could most likely equal 55-60k at a lower price in regards to revenue. Plus, gameday atmosphere would be greatly improved.

No chance. Just keep adding on and expanding as needed, if needed. Please, let it be needed.

You lost me at this point.

If we ever have money, we're buying a fleet of DeLorean's for tailgating purposes.

I know of 2 people that have a DeLorean, and there's one in the electronics section of Nebraska Furniture Mart in Omaha, so there's 3 to get you started.

So how many actual seats are there in JTS currently? I've heard 43,000 and 45,000 - is either of these correct? Looking back across the past 20 home games (because I was too lazy to find att. stats farther back), the median attendance was 47,580. In 16 of those 20 games we were above 45k, 4 out of 20 above 50k, and 1 out of 20 above 55k.

Seems like a 50k seat stadium would be about right for today's attendances, but of course you have to plan for the future. I don't think a stadium with 55k actual seats (and no hillside seating) would be outrageous.

I agree. Plus at the end of the day the football product on the field has to improve in aorder to make fans want to go to the games.

JTS originally had 45,000, but after the suites were put in on the west side that number dropped to 43,000.

Put in the lower bowl only in the south endzone and get upgraded sound and video systems.

It hasn't been bowled in yet because it's expensive, we haven't had a donor step up and do it, and until recently the need to do so from a facilities stand point hasn't been as pressing.

ISU regularly has more people at the game than there are physical seats. The south endzone only replaces the hill side. Nothing more, nothing less. It looks a hell of a lot better than bleachers and grass to a recruit. If you sell those tickets for the same price as the hillside tickets, you could easily fill it on a regular basis. If we just quit selling hillside, and sell those tickets at the same price, I would bet people would be more willing to pull the trigger on actual seats than cold wet grass. I can't say whether or not it would increase attendance, but it sure wouldn't hurt it either. JTS would 50,000 as opposed to 43,000 with a full endzone. We've gotten that many in attendance probably 2-3 times/year over the past 5 years. I also think that we'd sell more tickets to late season games if people knew they didn't have to stand on the hill, and the price was right.

Well to be honest, the last I heard was that Jack Trice stadium was a temporary structure to begin with. It was built to last a certain period of time and then replaced. I believe that time period was 15 years, and we are well past that. Just like Towers was a temporary solution to the baby boom, it was nursed well past its suggested life span. I would not be surprised at all if they finally decide to at least replace the upper bowl of the stadium in the near future.
