He was inviting his current fan base to come celebrate with him taking a huge step forward in his basketball career. It isn't his fault that most of the little cyclone fan base is also Big Cyclone fans.

Why be angry about it. Grow up, life is not all about you or the Cyclones (I say this as a die hard Cyclone fan).
It's not really about needing to grow up, I just dont like being played, maybe your used to it or put up with it my friend.

Listen to what some of you are saying to a 17 year old kid, seriously. Wow some of you need to grow up, whine and cry all you want do you really think Harrison gives two *****? He made his decision that is best for him and his family respect that. One player does not make one team don't get me wrong it would have been sweet, but the cards did not fall our way. Iowa State will be just fine our recruiting will go on and be successful because we have good players now and a good coaching staff. I am a Cyclone fan who wishes Harrison the best not because I am to nice, but because I respect what he help bring to Ames High a State champioship and not show boating like most teenagers would do in his position he earned it and did it in a respectable way so hats off to him for being mature about everything that came at him. Go Cyclones!!!

I don't know how many times I have to say it, people are not all that upset that he chose not to go to ISU. Most rational people in their hearts knew we were a long shot.

What people are angered about is that the ISU community appears to have been used badly. Sure HB will play against top tier talent and use the ISU facilities, and go to sporting events, but commit? Nah. Also, when it was time to make a decision, did he discourage ISU fans from being props? Nope. Seems he even wore an ISU sweatshirt just the other day when other Ames athletes signed their LOIs. Talk about sending a signal.

At some point HB and his family will take a step back and realize just how badly they handled things and how much they took for granted their community.

ISU comes out of this thing looking like a chump, especially the fanbase. They have every right to be angry.

And I am sick and tired of HB fanbois trying to tell Cyclone fans how they should react and vent. You want to talk HB in a positive light? Find a UNC board. I am sure there are plenty of them.

Barnes is too smart to play stupid right now and act like he had no idea this was going to garner the reactoin it has.

If anything, he shot himself in the foot with the "maturity" and "self awareness" act for the last 2 years. He single-handedly removed all room to play dumb after the fact.

Look at how he orchestrated this whole deal and kept it a secret until the very end! How many 17 year olds can do that? Very few. You don't do that unless you're calculating, methodical, and disciplined. He knew exactly what he was doing all along. Played everyone like a fiddle.

Today showed his true colors. His "I'll always be a Cyclone fan" comment made we want to puke. No shame in going to UNC...good for him. However, don't be so f**king condescending and pander to us with a comment like that. Does he think that's some consolation prize? Should we be honored he's still a fan? Everyone on this board is a fan and we've done as much work on the court for ISU as he has. None.

The arrogance is unbeleivable to me. It's going to be a long few months in Ames until he can run away to Chapel Hill...

How is that not just part of the recruiting process? ISU would be incredibly stupid to not make those things available to him, and he would be incredibly stupid to not use them.

How pathetic, a bunch of grown ups crying and calling a kid names. Get off the computer and look in the mirror because a flawed character is staring back at you and I'd work on that before you start worrying about a 17 year old kid.
post some more before you crap in my thread

I do really hope now that the basketball season has begun Harrison Barnes is no longer allowed to use our facilitys unless all high school kids can (which wont happen). It just burns my *** how he was so fake to ISU fans today. Now my Avatar make so much sense. I'll be selling them cheap if anyone wants one, PM me.

So fake. Mac better get some balls and shut him off. Game over, Harrison. Get ready for the ACC playing 5'11 165 lb kids from the Ames High JV squad.

This might be tough on Mac to shut him off, but he's got an entire university and fan base to worry about right now. Not the feelings of one kid.

Ok, I am confused. Has HB been given some sort of access to playing and facilities that another kid was not? I would not think that would be allowed when recruiting a kid. If it is allowed and he gained so much by playing against our players then perhaps our players have gained by playing against a #1 recruit.

So ISU fans went to the HB signing today only in the hopes he'd sign with ISU? That I find sad. The signing was not an ISU event. It was a day for Harrison Barnes. The only people that should have gone were those that were going to support a local athlete as he announced his school of choice, no matter which school he chose.

All this talk of how mature and classy this kid is was absolutely crushed today.

Before I continue...let me make one thing clear. I have absolutely no problem with him attending UNC. It's a great school with a great basketball tradition and a legitimate NC contender. It's a logical choice that many of us (admit it or not) would make.

However, the selfish, arrogant 17 year old in this kid really came through today. Welcome back to mortality, Harrison.

I've never seen anyone use an entire coach, program, University, and city to advance his own agenda than this kid has. Then to put on the spectacle he did was absolutely outrageous. You're going to invite the city of Ames and the ISU community, then skype Roy Williams? Seriously. He f**king skyped Roy Williams.

The thank you's to the other coaches and the whole speach was the most contrived and fabricated speech I've ever heard from a high schooler. He should have been focusing on a school with a good public policy program instead of a business school. Seasoned politicians can't spin a story that well in public. The special thanks to McD and Iowa State was a joke. I knew it the minute he said he'd always be a Cyclone Fan. Game Over. Thanks for the consolation prize, Harrison.

You know what's mature? Tell someone that you aren't considering that they're not in the running. Don't use their practice facilities and team to make yourself better. You know what's classy? Hold a private press conference without the public there to annouce your intention to attend another University. Be humble and don't put on a f**king Disney production at your press conference to attend an out-of-state school.

The kid can talk about grades, and saxophones, and choir, and god all he wants. He can be as well behaved and well spoken as he wants. At the end of the day, he's still a pompous teenager who loves the spotlight. Kids do that and it's fine. It's natural. However, the coverup is worse than the crime. The act is over. You are too smart not to know exactly what you were doing all along. Your actions as of late and your show today is twisted and sadistic. No one is buying it anymore, Harrison.

There is no way ISU was in the running until today. I will never beleive it.

I agree with you 100%!!!

Tell that to the boy and his mom. Just because some people have a keyboard doesnt mean you need to use it. Please have something smart to say.

You find it sad that ISU fans showed up to watch a ceremony that he invited them too? It was his call to invite the public...guess what? In Ames, IA when you invite the public you are inviting Cyclone fans.

Again, if you really think HB didn't deserve to show ISU a little more respect than that...well, I guess that can be your opinion. But the bottom line was there could have been 100 different ways to handle this whole announcement with more tact but he decided ISU wasn't good enough for him...and he obviously wanted the whole ISU community in the house when he said it.

You really believe that? I'm sure had he realized how much Cyclone fans were reading into a public announcement he would have handled it differently, but I don't think he purposely decided to invite the public in the hopes that Cyclone fans would come, just so he could stick it to us.
