Re: Rashad Vaughn

I've said it before. Vaughn is waiting to make a commitment until April to see how many players declare for the NBA draft and to see if Coach Hoiberg will remain at Iowa State and NOT jump ship to the NBA. If Rashad commits to us, then you know we are golden with Coach Hoiberg for another year!

I already know this.

If Wayne Selden leaves Kansas early for the draft, Vaughn will go to Kansas. If Selden stays at Kansas for another year (which I think he should), Vaughn should go to ISU. Carolina, Kentucky and UNLV are a mess right now. Vaughn and his family seem to have their heads on straight. KU and ISU are his best choices. I think it's down to them.

So are you going with the absolute or the "I think"?

The only thing I don't agree with is that he is going to Kansas if Selden leaves. The chances go way up if he does, but it's more then likely a 2 horse race until April unless something drastic happens coaching wise. UNC had some serious questions right now, UNLV gets outsold by other fan bases at home, and Kentucky is exactly what you said. One giant mess that confuses everybody in basketball.

Re: Rashad Vaughn

Reasons why it's not "down to Kansas and Iowa State":Jaquan Lyle - Yahoo! SportsKelly Oubre - Yahoo! Sports
Oubre has already committed to KU and is a wing 3, stepping into Wiggins spot. Vaughn is a pure shooting guard. Lyle is a combo guard that is a bit of a flake. I hope KU passes on him. I have had my fill of knuckleheaded PGs at Ku to last me a lifetime. He would be brought in to be a PG at KU. Tharpe, Mason and Frankamp have improved enough that if KU lost Selden then they would likely target a replacement for Selden. Frankamp and Mason are too small to slide over to the 2 and play significant minutes there. Vaughn would be a perfect fit and would see what Self has done for Selden as an example of what he could have going through our program.

If Lyle comes to KU I don't see Vaughn going there but that's just my opinion

Right now we have zero schollies left. The only way that one opens up is if either Embiid or Selden leave early for the draft or someone transfers. If Selden stays and Embiid leaves, I don't know what KU does. They are big on Myles Turner but with Ellis on roster and Cliff Alexander coming in, I don't see Turner wanting to be a rotation guy. Maybe we take Lyle to compete with Tharpe/Mason/frankamp for the PG minutes. Vaughn isn't coming if Selden stays. He isn't going to beat out Selden for minutes. If Selden leaves I think they go all in on Vaughn and if they don't get him go after Lyle. Lyle is friends with Alexander. He's there if KU wants him.

Re: Rashad Vaughn

I do not see Vaughn going to KU, but anything is possible. Even if Selden leaves KU has a lot of guards with Green, Frankamp, Mason, and maybe White coming back. They are also after Lyle. Plus imo it is likely Vaughn will tire of being Oubre's wingman.

There is absolutely no way Embid is at ku next year, zero chance. Embid is a lottery pick as is wiggins. Both of those two are gone, period.

Greene and White are back up wings behind Oubre. They will battle for Oubre's back up minutes. They don't affect Vaughn at all. I forgot that Oubre and Vaughn are high school teammates. You're right, that probably won't help KU AT ALL.... Vaughn won't have to worry about how many guys are on the bench behind him. He would start at the SG position with Tharpe at the PG position. Mason would be the backup PG and Frankamp is kind of a jack of all trades combo guard that will play whichever spot he has a good matchup at. He's too short to blindly assign a set spot.

That would suck to play in a system where you only play one position

Re: Rashad Vaughn

I can see Vaughn going to about 5 different schools. Anyone want to argue aimlessly with me? I can guarantee that if you do choose to argue with me that it will have zero impact on Vaughn's decision.

I agree ti is highly unlikely, but Joel's father is very insistent that he is fully prepared before he leaves. They have money, so they aren't worried about that. Embiid;s father is allegedly doing a lot of research into how well players do in the NBA after leaving after one year versus staying a bit longer for additional training and preparation. Embiid still has a lot of holes in his game. He really has no consistent jump shot to speak of and he needs to put on about another 20+ pounds. they are not rushing him AT ALL. I think this research is wise on their part. I have long argued that players would be best served int he long run to stay in college for about three years and be ready to make an immediate impact on the NBA when they get there year one. If they sit on the bench their first two years, they aren't able to develop enough and haven't achieved enough to earn a big pay day when their capped rookie contract ends. If you are desperate for the money (McLemore last year) then by all means go. If you aren't, it's best to get as ready as possible in college before you jump so that you can have the most earning power. the rookie contract is capped. It's that 2nd contract that is the one that can be the serious money. Like I said, I expect him to go to the NBA, but I wouldn't be at all surprised if he stays another year. Just a feeling I have from the conversations going around KU. We'll see.
