Re: Rashad Vaughn - Announcing Saturday

One thing to consider too is that UNLV top 3 scorers are all returning next year not to mention they have a 5 Star recruit coming who is a SF. RV goes to UNLV and in year 1 he's splitting minutes a lot. At ISU he's a 30-35 min player day one.

Is this something that the coaches know about ahead of time, or do they have to wait for the actual announcement.

Re: Rashad Vaughn - Announcing Saturday

Who was the last #1 pick from Baylor? Not even RGIII got drafted #1 overall...

Again, I don't understand how he could pick UNLV over us, but let's not act like he's choosing some no-name school with absolutely nothing to offer.

Not a lottery pick. The #1 overall pick. And he sucks. But somehow, UNLV got him there.

Nobody is saying UNLV is KU, UK, or UNC. We're just saying it's not as though he is committing to NIACC.

What is so hard to understand about this? I am flabbergasted by the blinders some people around here are wearing....

Michael Olowokandi thinks this logic is bad.

Re: Rashad Vaughn - Announcing Saturday

They were in a sweet 16 not to long ago, we haven't been to one in 14 years...
More about where the program is headed, not where they have been. Of course, the latter is often used in guessing the former.
My impression is that it is often a surprise, but maybe that is part of the show
That has got to be rough.

Maybe we will get lucky and UNLV fires their coach, followed bu us picking up a couple of the recruits RV wants to play with.

Re: Rashad Vaughn - Announcing Saturday

So here is how I see it going down. During the Delta Dental Smile-cam segment on Saturday, RV shows up on the video board, smiles, puts on an ISU hat and says "I'm comin' to Ames. RV...OUT!"

That is a recruiting violation.

Re: Rashad Vaughn - Announcing Saturday

Because UNLV has bee irrelevant in basketball for 20 years. Northern Iowa has had a better program. That's why. No it isn't NIACC but we aren't talking about a 2 star recruit either. It's like Scott Drew at Baylor but 10x worse. Drew gets top talent and ruins them. Obviously RV likes Vegas or he wouldn't have gone to Findlay but I have to think that going to UNLV, if he does, has more to do with things we cannot offer. Sorry but you won't convince me of anything else. Let's be clear..the NBA doesn't draft based on where you went to college. two lottery picks from last year played at Weber State and Univ of Washington. UNLV isn't some Lottery mecca.

Not relevant? At least try to know what you are talking about. They have made the tourney quite a bit over the last 10 years and probably about every year since Vaughn has been in jr high (I guess that is when kids start paying attention).

Re: Rashad Vaughn - Announcing Saturday

UNLV as an option only if he wants to pad the stats and get #1 pick money, nobody watches their games and weaknesses are not as exposed since the level of comp is lower.

This is probably one of the main appeals of UNLV. A softer schedule than he would face on a weekly basis in either the Big 12 or the ACC. It might come down to what is more important to him. The short term gain from being able to put up easier numbers or the long term gain from facing tougher competition on a regular basis.

Maybe he likes Vegas and feels comfortable out there and wants that as a home base for his one year in college. He's close to the program, knows the scene, etc.

If he chooses UNLV over us, it has to be a comfort thing. I can't comprehend anything else it would be. He'd get more exposure here and have a popular coach with NBA connections, play for a program that is on the rise. Be on TV a TON more than UNLV. Be part of an already good team, that with him would be a Final 4 contender.

I say he choses UNLV because if he didn't chose them they would run him out of town

Lol! Uhhh...no. You need a coach that can get you there, and they don't have one.
