Re: Rashad Vaughn

I hate to say it, but I think Kansas is our only true threat for Vaughn. UNC is so inconsistent that you wonder if they'll get it back together or not. Kentucky...yeah, for all the talent they have there is just no excuse for that stinkshow they put on tonight (and losses to Baylor, etc). UNLV is only on the list because they're giving Kaffey a job if Vaughn goes there...Which leaves us and KU.

Oubre and Alexander heading there next year (Vaughn plays with Oubre on his prep team now) along with whomever they keep from this class...not a bad gig if you want to win. ISU has tons of talent coming back next year too and honestly the Mayor is as good a coach as Self and has just as good a chance at getting guy to the NBA.

So, advantage ISU due to length of relationship, play style, coach, etc. But it will be a nailbiter.

Oh, and F*** Kansas.

Yeah, I don't really agree with that analysis at all. It's not like UNC and KY are imploding programs, they're always going to get the best of the best. I honestly think it's down to UNC and ISU for the top 2. Second tier is UK and KU. And UNLV has no chance.

Probably because of stalkers on here. Let the man live.

Still don't understand this notion of reading tweets as equating to "stalking". It's like me claiming anyone who reads my posts on CF are stalking me. It's a public forum. I think they understand anyone can read what they put out there.

Very true. Reading a potential recruits tweets to gauge their interest is one thing, tweeting @ them is another.

A lot of people (many ISU fans included) don't know that tweeting at a recruit is actually an NCAA violation.

Then let's tweet at Vaughn saying we are Kentucky, Kansas, UNLV, and UNC boosters!

You know what this thread really needs? Another prospective line-up for the 2104-2015 season.

This. I think he wouldn't make his mind up before April if he was seriously considering UK and KU. Think it's down to UNC and us and I'm optimistic about our chances

I agree with this. I think KU got on him too late and he's going to make his decision before he even knows what Seldon is going to do. He hasn't even taken an official to KU. I think it's ISU with a small chance for UNC.

Not that I'm tweeting at any recruits seeing as I dont even have a Twitter account, but I was under the impression that it was only a violation if you were a booster, season ticket holder or something where you were financially contributing to the team. Not exactly sure though so if someone that knows better can clarify. I know it was talked about somewhere else in the thread but too lazy to go back and check. Plus would be very hard to actually enforce. I could register a Twitter as UNCTarheel or something like that and start tweeting at him and how would the NCAA know any better. Nearly impossible to enforce.

I feel like I can't say this enough, do not under estimate the relationships he has with the other UNLV recruits. They have known each other for quite a while. I like our chances but if I were a UNLV fan I would like them too.

Re: Rashad Vaughn

I think Kentucky proved last night that they can't do anything with their talent and that it won't be the best place for Vaughn since he will be surrounded by a bunch of arrogant, blockheaded, players that don't pass. Calipari is a joke of a coach!

All Calipari did was yell at the Yo Harrison twins, yell at Causey Steinless, yell at the refs when things went south at the start. Bottom line the guards from LSU were too quick and those two front line players for LSU were better than the Blue Men youngsters. He does not appear to be a players coach.

That is a good point... One of his Findlay teamates is going to UNLV and I would assume that he "runs" into a lot of current UNLV players in Vegas.
That said, RV has been to Ames a number of times and knows Niang, Thomas, Long and Monte too. It isn't like he is walking into a situation full of strangers. I also think Custer made it a point to meet RV's last visit official. He was also commenting last weekend that him Theo Pinson (UNC) and him are friends.
In this age of AAU basketball most of the top players go to the same tourneys thus, get to know one another.

Calipari's approach of all freshmen has worked for sure once, and was pretty successful another year, even though they were upset in the tournament. It obviously didn't work last year, and so far its not working so great this year. Not exactly a whole lot of consistency.

However, you can not argue with UK's track record of getting players drafted early and often. At least 4 that were about top three overall, another handful that were lottery, and even more still in the first round.

Some would argue that those kids had the talent to get drafted in those positions no matter where they went to school. This year will be interesting though because, for probably the first time, Calipari has some talent that is not producing up to the level expected out of HS.

The Harrison twins were top 10 rated, but so far look like they are not even lottery picks. Interesting to see how it plays out, and if they return for another year at UK.

If things fall apart this year for UK, then you gotta believe some recruits start thinking that overloading one team with young talent maybe isn't such a great idea.

Kentucky gets people drafted on talent alone. Since the argument is that no matter how talented you are, you'll get drafted regardless of the school you pick. Since that philosophy is true, why would you want to go to Kentucky, where the coach has proven last year and this year that they can't win. Since Vaughn is probably good enough to get drafted after his freshman year, shouldn't he choose a program that can win, like ISU? Since UNC seems to be on the decline as well, I hope this philosophy holds true and knocks them out along with Kentucky (and UNLV, of course). Since Kansas may return a bunch of their talent, it may scare Vaughn away from there as it will limit playing time. I really hope this is the case.

I hate Kentucky and think the best choice for RV is in Ames. With that being said, James Young has a pretty similar game to RV and got 23 pts last night and has had a solid season. I'm sure that's what Cal is pitching to him as a replacement for when he leaves after this season

Guys with talent will get drafted early no matter where they go to school. Anthony Davis could have gone to Western Kentucky and been drafted Top 5. Vaughn seems to be a very good player. I don't see him as an ubertalent future NBA All Star OAD player. Two years at Ketucky wouldn't be any more beneficial for him than two years at Iowa State except that he would get to practice against a better caliber of player (if that matters to him). If anything, Hoiberg seems to be a better teacher of the game than Calipari and may be a better choice. Plus ISU is having better results and might give him the better chance at college success than Kentucky at this point. I still think ISU gets him. Carolina and Kentucky seem like dumpster fires right now but nothing would surprise me.

Re: Rashad Vaughn

Damian Lillard has shown that where you go to college isn't the most important factor when it comes to getting to the NBA. If you have the talent the NBA will find you. Lillard was taken sixth overall and went to college at Weber State. How many of you know which state Weber State is even in without looking it up? I admit I had to look it up just now.

The Weber State Wildcats play in the Big Sky conference and they're located in Ogden, Utah.
