I saw the preview and thought about giving it a go. And I did enjoy Mom and Dad.

It’s fairly entertaining. Definitely not horror. Not even really comedic horror like Shawn of the Dead. Essentially atomic war creates an apocalypse where adults turn into “ghoulies” and kids try to survive in the world. But in the LA suburbs, where the main story takes place, there’s like, territories run by the high school cliques. So like, the jocks, the nerds, the drama kids, etc.

The main character and his “quest” to find the girl he loves is kind of lame, but there’s a 10 year old super genius, sociopathic girl and the relationship she builds with a former teacher turned ghoulie that still semi-functions as a somewhat human is genuinely endearing and really good.

Matthew Broderick is really good in it, as he plays the principal of the school. Lots of flashback scenes and fourth wall breaking scenes, with a lot of odes to Ferris Bueller, which are pretty fun.

There’s worse ways to waste your time.

Mine are essentially bone on bone now - no cartilage left. I'm trying to make them last as long as possible before I go the replacement route. Pretty sure you wouldn't want them.
My mom had both replaced at the same time -- she was 79. I went walking with her a couple weeks ago, and she kicked my butt.

Was watching ginko leaves fall when I noticed my old Christmas cactus still on the deck. Had been thinking of tossing it and put it on the deck this spring but hadn't gotten to giving it that final toss. If it survives last nights 23-24 degree low I might have to give it another chance. I did bring it in indoors. Tough old bird, It's almost 50 years old (started from a cutting from hort greenhouse when I was at ISU)..

Makes going down all those steps at JHHC really fun, amirite KC?
Up is good. Down scares the bejeebers outta me because I don't trust them, and there is no handrail. Hilton is okay - handrails everywhere. JT is rough because there are no handrails up to the top in the upper deck or down to the bottom of the lower bowl. We were fortunate to get seats so that I have access to the handrail that goes around the stairwell.

Oh, gosh, don't toss it. I don't really collect them, but have a few - one from my parents, one from a friend (belonged to her mother, I think) and one from a Facebook acquaintance who grew cuttings from one her grandpa gave to her grandma sometime during WWII. I love the long life of these, assuming I don't fry them in the first spring sun.

If Papa Lew was any kind of a gentleman, he'd carry you! :p

It's looking a little rough. I took a cutting from a big piece of it about 20 plus years ago, that one is in much better shape.

Here's junior, he's in pretty good shape and a direct descendant of ISU hort.

Acorn squish takes way too long to bake. Jumped started it in the micro for 4 minutes. Hoping that cuts bakey time to sometime more reasonable. Ain't nobody got a hour or so for a little squish to cook.

Did find a good hack for cutting this little ******* in half without endangering your fingers. Cooked to the whole thing in the micro for one minute, softened just enough for a big chef knife to cut without hammering it with a mallet. Easy Peasy.

I do this with baked potatoes a lot too. I love how it cuts the cook time down and taste just as good.

Seriously, anybody have a couple good knees they can spare?

Both of my knees creak, crack and hurt, so I doubt you'll want either of mine either. I'm always worried about one or two of them giving out carrying a kid down stairs.

Whoa, that is so much bigger than all of mine together! Good job keeping it going. I had a regular cactus from "indoor plants" a few years later than yours that I kept going for probably 25 years. Eventually it rotten toward the bottom and some little wildlife kept eating it when I had it outside in the summer.
My instructor was Bob B-something. And BTW, I have more than a dozen African violets that came from DD and her then-boyfriend (now husband) when they took indoor plants as hort majors. Those plants are a little more temperamental.
