I am holding a brief in memoriam ceremony at 1:00 for my late winged euonymus shrubs (Euonymus alatus now Euonymus mortuus).
They were good shrubs. They minded their own business and did their job as best they could. We will never see their kind again. Their watch has ended.I am holding a brief in memoriam ceremony at 1:00 for my late winged euonymus shrubs (Euonymus alatus now Euonymus mortuus).
That's probably a very astute statement.I usually think, "I would be excited, too, that that kid is graduating." And it often isn't too far off the mark...
My wife noticed the other day that two of our thorn bushes and one of our boxwoods are half dead and that one of our boxwoods is all the way dead. My only thought was, not this year, I already have too much to do.I am holding a brief in memoriam ceremony at 1:00 for my late winged euonymus shrubs (Euonymus alatus now Euonymus mortuus).

I suppose it isn't a coincidence that the bulb stuff and shade stuff is doing great and that the full sun stuff is doing not so great.Gardening 2019 in Minnesota, what didn't freeze to death this winter will drown in saturated soils this spring and summer.

Any great ideas for summer vacations out east? Looking at last week of July timeframe. Probably need to lock something down soon.
You should give this a separate thread and add a poll. That should make for an interesting afternoon on CFEtiquette question:
When you are a guest in someone's house is it okay to kick their dog? If so, how hard of a kick is allowed?
Backstory:
Invited to friends house for get together on Memorial Day. They have 3 dogs including 2 yippy, kicking size dogs. One is extremely high strung and while I have my hands full carrying food in the house comes up behind me and nips me pretty hard in the calf. Luckily, it is cool and rainy and I have jeans on. Mrs. Hostess apologizes about it and takes the dog out of the room. I go out on porch and sit out there. When it is time to eat I come back in to kitchen. Dog waits until I have a half full plate of food and then sneaks up behind me and nips me twice in the calves. Mrs. Hostess this time scolds dog and puts him in kennel. I go back out to porch to stay away from less than friendly host animal. After everyone has eaten and had dessert - maybe 90 minutes later I go back in to pitch in cleaning up. Dog is again out of kennel and nips me again when my back is turned. Mrs. Hostess apologizes again and takes dog away. She has no idea why it is picking on me and no one else. When Mrs. Hostess is gone other guest confides in me that on another visit dog bit her. She says Host family knows but doesn't know that when she got home she discovered that the dog had drawn blood. So is it okay for me to place a short but well placed kick next time? Not that I am sure I will go back in their house if that mutt isn't contained.
I'm very glad I didn't make a scene at the time. Mrs. Velo told me after we left that Mrs. Hostess informed her that she has breast cancer and that she would be having surgery the next week.
I think no matter what size garage you have, it's always one size too small. Unless you have a garage mahal.Buy a house with a bigger garage and a smaller lawn.
FTW!
If she likes tomatoes, tomatoes would be good. They would need a lot of water in a pot on pavement.Speaking of plants, what would a good summer planting project be for Z? It would be sitting outside with little shelter on a pavement slab.
Bike ride. It's supposed to rain more tomorrow.I should go cut down my dead shrubs now. And mow. And change the oil in the mower. And transplant some of the plants into the front yard area I dug up before the monsoons arrived.
Of I could just say **** it and go ride the trails to the Chain of Lakes.
Tough call.
It's Papa Lew's world and we are all just living in it.I think no matter what size garage you have, it's always one size too small. Unless you have a garage mahal.
They'd plant shrubbery for me. The problem is, I'd probably end up with the knights who say ekki-ekki-ekki-ekki-ptang-zoom-boing-mrowr.Speaking of shrubbery..............
