Love car commercials that highlight the lane deviation devices.

Need to keep your car in its lane? Pay attention to your driving.

BTW those have been shown to not even work when they would actually be useful like snowy roads.

I have mine shut off because it is too damn sensitive. It’s like MrsWx is always in the car with me complaining because I am within a foot or two of the line. Blind spot cameras and sensors on the other hand are awesome.

I actually don't agree vs. blind spot sensors either.

People get a habit of not checking their blind spots and it's even less aware of space.
Same goes for auto brakes/front space stuff.

If someone doesn't know to brake or doesn't know to not follow closely behind a car and needs to be alerted of these things they shouldn't be driving.

I don't get to see the movie till Sunday. Can you tell that there's a theme to my music this week.? :p

With everything going on, we're probably going to have to wait another two weekends. Meh.

I had a rental car for a weekend that had the blind spot sensors, and it freaked me out at first. After the first day, it was a nice perk to have. Back-up cameras are also a nice perk, but I would NEVER solely rely on that while backing up.

My thought is that they become so dependent on those things that the first time they drive a car without them (most rental cars are not that decked out), they're an accident waiting to happen.

Not exactly sure.

I will let you tell my wife that she's losing her license. :) We don't have anything but backup sensors but, I swear I can read that long license number in fine print at the bottom of the sticker on the vehicles in front of us.

BTW, my wife is the one who backed up a vehicle we had just bought into another vehicle in our driveway and it has a backup camera.

Old guy disagrees with folks dissing the sensors. I love them and I am old school with a couple of manual transmission cars. Backing the Audi out from between two big ass SUV's in a parking lot would be totally blind without the sensors. Wish it had the braking stuff, next car will. Being a driver who actually recognises that I can and do make mistakes allows me to appreciate these new devices. I've never had a traffic accident in 50 years so I am generally a safe driver but also a lucky one as is anyone who has not had an accident. I am old school enough to still use the mirrors but when I am driving the old Boxster I immediately miss the extra assurance of the Audi's blind spot sensors.

The wandering lane thingies stuff wouldn't be a big deal to me since I am not distracted much, pretty militant about no cell use in the car. What DOES distract me is driving with passengers. I drive 99% of my miles the last 10 years with just me. Throw a couple friends in the car chatting and I do find that distracting since it's just not my norm.

I think I'd be pumping that imaginary brake on the passenger side consistently if I rode with your wife.:eek:

My right foot is permanently drove into the floor boards while riding. I don't nap (my wife will fight me on this as at times after long weeks I will just crash for an hour on the couch but that's about once a month) but will close my eyes and try to avoid seeing what she is doing out of total fear. Throw in someone who can get distracted when her phone beeps, means I almost always drive and do double checks on kids buckled in when she is driving.

We've been slowly catching up on shows we recorded while we were gone. We were watching an episode of Blue Bloods, and about halfway through, there was a quick glitch and the show repeated about five seconds of what had just been shown. From then until the end of the show, there was a woman's voice narrating all of the action (kind of like closed captioning, but for blind people). It was really bizarre. I also learned that there is no "menu" on a TIVO remote. Still shaking my head over that... :D

I don't drive particularly slow, but I absolutely hate tailgaters. People who refuse to observe a safe following distance should not be allowed to drive.

They should be more commonly named something like 'rear hazard' cameras/sensors. I used to not like them, but once you get in your car, the first piece of ground you see out the back window is like 20-30 feet away, so having something detect hazards RIGHT behind the car below the back bumper like dogs or kids is a good thing.

I love the smell of Hoppes #9.....what a time machine. Smell is an under-rated sense. I guess unless your in an elevator and someone farts.
Taste is a good sense too....it is in my top 5.
