let's just throw the season down the drain right now! it's not like we went to a bowl game last year because we had a bad game against Iowa right?

Don't throw the season out but with the upcoming schedule and today's performance, maybe some room for concern.

Hopefully we it will look much brighter all over this board after next weeks game.

It is obvious that AA has consistent accuracy problems when throwing down field. The reason his completion percentage is kinda OK is because they throw so many bubble screens and short passes to the running backs behind the line (which they abandoned today and will go back to next week in KC). His tendancy to force throws into tight coverage is his biggest fault and it is not because of the "3 coaches in 5 years" excuse. He has played enough under fire to have solved that issue by now. Watch an NFL QB sometime, most of the time after they throw...they get nailed. Iowa is VERY GOOD. This game was over at the end of Iowa's second position, the fans, coaches, announcers and most of all the players all knew it. The reason they stuck with AA the whole way was to score a TD against the Hawks so they could get that out of the media's attention next year in Ames. Rhoades and Herman did not recruit AA or Tiller and are struggling with what they have available. I also think AA having grown up in Ames really kills himself over this game and it shows. I hope the fans do not get on him personally, he has worked very hard and probably is getting all he has to offer. Coaches want to win and he is our best shot or they would be playing someone else, believe me. We are 1-1 and lost by about the same to Iowa both years under CPR...save your anxiety for two weeks. Building a program is not easy.

Yes we got our arses kicked and yes, Austen was at least partially to blame. Iowa is good. Best team in the country? Top 5? Top 10? Don't know - we'll see as the season progresses, but they are good.

We didn't go down field because we couldn't - pass rush was too strong. Receivers didn't catch the balls thrown because they were either blanketed by defenders or the pass was off the mark. I only counted two dropped balls. Austen does seem like a deer in the headlights against any defense that has a pass rush and a fast backfield. He just seems lost.

He's seemed that way for three years now. I've never felt comfortable with Arnaud as our QB. He seems like a great guy, but he hasn't shown yet in his entire career that he deserves to be the starting QB at a BCS school. I know he'll continue to lead the team and I'll be rooting for him, but with him at the helm it wouldn't surprise me if we don't win another game this year.

Austen has won 9 of 26 games as a starter - 2 of those wins were FCS teams (South Dakota State & North Dakota State), 3 were MAC teams (Kent State twice, Northern Illinois), and the remaining were rebuilding and simply not very good (Army, Baylor, Colorado, and Minnesota). When he has played teams that had talent and speed in the defensive backfield, he hasn't been able to handle it. His throws have been inconsistent at best. His decision making has been suspect. He's had happy feet any time there has been any kind of rush. He has thrown when he should have run and has scrambled when he should have thrown. I wanted Philip Bates to be the guy, but our previous coach started Austen instead. Just another way Chiz**ck screwed us. I played college football and know that blame unfairly gets put on skill position players too often, but given Austen's performance history I really don't think there's much hope that his play will vastly improve. I don't think anyone is an idiot for questioning whether it is time to give our young QBs some experience so we can come out firing next year, and I don't think we'd be any less likely to go bowling this year with someone else at QB.

Good post, AllN4Cy. After the first two games, I am having subtle doubts about the offensive line. Take away the 63 yd. run against NIll. and the running game has been pretty lackluster so far, at best. Offensive schemes are dependant upon the threat of a run and we have not established that this year. We showed a big improvement in week 3 last year in KC and I hope I see the same thing again...if not, look out.

I am a bit torn on this situation. I think Austin Arnaud probably gives us the best chance to win games right now. The problem is that the offense clearly hasn't "clicked" yet for him, and he has shown no signs that he is ready to turn the corner. If he is not going to get the offense under wraps and get things figured out, maybe it is time to start looking for someone else to run the show. As of now it feels like every snap taken by Arnaud is a wasted rep for someone who may be able to lead us in the future.

What we have is a Ames kid....playing in the spotlight for his ISU....against their instate rival...for the last time....trying to make up for last year. He was pushing from the start.

Agreed. If things don't go well for Austen in KC, we really need to look at someone else to try to revive the season and build for the future.

Too much blame goes to AA, not enough to the poor WR play on this team.

Add in a crappy Right side of the Oline and its not easy playing QB for ISU.

Maybe he will click for the Mizzou game?
