While the committee will hold the Milwaukee loss against us, it should be thrown out when projecting the future. Babb wasn't at the point, and Brase and Lard were out. Completely different team. True for Mizzou as well, but that's not the loss that has tainted everyone's opinion.

And yes, I said 'taint'.

Nine wins in Non Conf, Tennessee is a loss. Eight wins in Conf, One win in BIG 12 Tourney, You think 18 wins is good enough to get into the NCAA Tourney.....:)

Where are the 8/9 wins in Big 12 conference. I imagine we won't be favored in very many games.

Too early to put more than beer money on making the tournament? Yes.
Too early to talk? Hell no. This is a message board, after all.

Imo we aren’t going to make it, but that in itself is talking about tournament possibilities.

Ha, yeah, I hate people telling fans to cool it on being a fan. This is ISU for crying out loud. If it wasn't for optimism, we wouldn't have any sports teams.

It also really bothers me people who make irt seem that what fans talk about has anything to do with what will or won't happen. Again, this is ISU, if fans influenced anything on the court or field, we'd be sitting on multiple National Championships over the past 10 years.

Honestly, I will be very pleased if ISU can find a way to the NCAA tourney. Before the season I had some hope that things would fall together on a few road games and add a little Hilton Magic to get a 10 seed. Pretty much still there except there is at least some more ways to see it happening.

I think some of the middle of the pack Big 12 teams are being over-valued vs. Iowa State. The Big 12 double round-robin is a gauntlet, but I don't think there is as much difference between teams 4 through 10 as the analytics show.

Compare teams 4 through 10 to a team like, say, the Iowa Hawkeyes, and sure the analytics are right on the money.

From what I am seeing, the AP poll has 6 of the Big 12's 10 teams in its top 21. ISU would currently be the 9th or 10th team in the league. As of right now we will be underdogs in Hilton for many of our games. So clearly this team is going to have to pull off several upsets to even have a chance for the NCAA tournament.

Although we beat them both, I would say as of now UNI and Iowa have a better path to the tournament than Iowa State. After tomorrow we will have nothing but high-pressured, tough battles from start to finish every game. It will take an incredible season just to win half our conference games. Obviously we hope they can, but it is by far more difficult this year than I can recall as usually there are always a few teams that are down. Not so this year.

How did we go from "having a chance" to needing to pump the brakes in 3 days.

It's like point and counterpoint situation where both parties are saying the same thing.

Agree. I don't think anyone has come out and said ISU WILL make the tourney, just that based on recent improvement and Prohm's coaching record, it's not out of the question. One can argue that based on comparing head-to-head games UNI has played vs. Villanova and ISU, where ISU actually performed better based on offensive and defensive percentages, ISU is likely to make the tourney. But, it's not like a runaway train of opinion hurdling toward the NCAA Tourney to which brakes need to be applied.

I think everyone here is pretty much in agreement..... that we 'CAN' make the tournament, but none of us would bet our house payment on it.

Yes. We will win games we aren't favored in, it's just hard to predict which ones. The only games that I see as unwinnable right now (factoring in KU's current roster) are both WVU games and the road game versus Baylor. To me, none of the other games will be a real surprise if we win them. The real surprise will come if we win a lot of games we aren't favored in.
