Are you equating hand sanitizer during a pandemic to PS5s? In my area, the government was a major purchaser of the hand sanitizer so health care workers would have it at work, but I feel that those two things are not even close to apples and oranges. I feel it’s more similar to new cars, you want one, you are probably paying over sticker price for it, or when Apple phones first come out. You don’t need it, not a necessity, so you want to avoid standing in line/cue and believe your life needs them, feel free to find a scalper.

But let's say you are in the market for a new F150 and some person buys all the stock at the dealership as they arrive. Then they say they'll sell you that F150 for 2x the sticker. Yes, you could just wait it out, but after a year of that you might start to get upset, yes? Oh yeah, and the same thing is happening to the Chevy dealership. So you're either paying 2x the sticker price or waiting over a year to buy a new truck. That would be the car equivalent here. I think people are used to this with product releases by now. But it's been a year

My 3/4T pickup got stolen last October. Bought a beater to wait out the tight pickup inventory. Still driving the beater, still waiting and doesn’t phase me. Even found some alternatives if it lasts quite a bit longer, the high prices. It is what it is. I use it for work but have learned that there are other options to solve the problem. Cheaper also.

We got an Xbox at Target for my kid. It said in-stock when we left the house and said 7 left when we got there. They don't allow you to buy online and pick up in store.
That is so strange because I heard the opposite about the PS5. People are saying that employees are saying they have stock in the back room but can only sell them online for pickup.

My understanding, for target, is that the xbox S can be bought in store. I saw two on the shelf this morning, but the X can only be bought through an online order/pickup.

For the PS5 it is strickly online/mobile order for in-store pickup

Scalpers are leeches and human scum and retailers should be doing more to prevent the bots from scooping up online inventory.

Like with a lot of things people don’t care much since this is a luxury good, but the same tactics will and already have been used to corner the market on necessary goods at some point.

Thanks for coming to my Ted talk.

No I’m not talking about manufacturer’s or certified dealers raising prices for high demand products or the government making sure essential workers are protected, I’m talking specifically about the leeches that needlessly insert themselves as a middle man to make a buck which prices out an ever growing percentage of the population.

What if I could get a a really nice 3/4T pickup with basically no miles since around last October? Great deal because you're a Cyclone fan.

Seriously though, the used Acura SUV I want to buy is around 14k more this year than last year, so I am still waiting, but waiting this long has sucked and I am starting to get really impatient.

The annoying thing is now, in an effort to combat the scalpers, most of the Xbox retailers require an all access purchase. But the game pass portion of that is much more expensive than you could get it for separately.

Essentially have to overpay by $200 to get a new series x from best buy. Not to mention having to create a whole new credit line just for a console.

Help me with this one. The MDX just got redesigned, so I assume you're not buying that used. An older MDX shouldn't bring anything since it's so dated. Is a used RDX with 14k more this year? I'm trying to think of a scenerio where it wouldn't make more sense to buy new?

A 2019 MDX A-Spec is 14k more than last year with more miles by default. It definitely makes sense to buy new, but those are hard to get too.

I ended up scoring a PS5 at GameStop yesterday. I saw online that the store in my neighborhood was going to have inventory available at 5pm. So, at 4:30 I decided to drive by and see what the line looked like. It was pretty short, so I stopped. More people started arriving shortly thereafter. At about 10 til 5, an employee came out and asked people what they wanted. He said they had 8 consoles in stock. I was 7th in line.

They must have limited the people to 1 then. That's nice.

At least the scalpers have to be local rather than just botting every console drop and having them shipped to them.

I was reading it as they are sitting in the back room, but not put out on the shelves, only available for pickup.

If that's wrong then I'm still hopeful for society.

Pretty much right, you have to order online and choose pick up from the store. I've heard of people getting lucky and seeing an XSX or PS5 on a store shelf, but it's not common. At least with Target you're competing against people that are close enough to drive and pick up from that particular store, rather than the entire world.
