Definitely agree that we need to limit their bigs. The trio of Hayes/Sims/Ostekowski can give us problems in the paint if we let them. We will need to speed things up and get them to play our game. Similar to what we did vs. WV. Get them to turn it over, which leads to fast break points and we win the game.

ISU forces the tempo and pulls away in the second half. Cam Lard registers his best game of the season to date.

THT and Wiggs will be the keys. If they can penetrate, I like our chances. And CSP's defense is starting to really take hold. Maybe not a big double-digit blowout, but I think these guys are dialed in and ready to make their move.

Tempo will be the key. If Texas plays 2 bigs we need to make those guys run the floor. We pull away some in the second half and it ends up Iowa State 82 Texas 70.

My prediction is lots of Horns down by everyone and Clones by 13. 79-66.

I think we can make them adjust to us (meaning they'll have to go small-ish to keep up) by running them ragged and pushing our tempo up. We're tremendous in the open court before the defense sets up, and I don't think a big 4 is going to keep up with THT (and their 5 might not keep up with Jacobson and Lard if they're running the floor).

I'll take ISU 74-69.

I think we take this one no matter what. The point differential is up for grabs. If Texas is still living in the past of their KU win, then we take a convincing 15 point win. If not, then we win a close one by 6. Jacobson will have to keep Osetkowski at bay for the majority of the game for my prediction to stay true.

I see ISU leading the majority of this one, never pulling away but keeping Texas at arm's length. A 3-4 point halftime lead and ultimately a 7-8 point win as free throws extend it a bit late.

73-65 good guys

Last time I had a bad feeling about a home game was Kansas State. I have a bad feeling about Texas. Hope like hell I am wrong.

Lard needs to stay out of foul trouble in this game. If he does, I think the Cyclones can win this by double digits.

As long as Osetkowski doesn't have a repeat career night. Damn 25% shooter from 3pt drained 7 in our OT loss to them last year at Hilton. o_O He hasn't come close to repeating that since.

Anytime an opposing player takes the court against us, that 3-pt average before the game means nothing. Absolutely nothing. It is like the basketball gods roll a percentage dice right before tip-off.

UT isn't a great match up for ISU due to their post depth but aren't a very good road team. ISU has the advantage at the guards and that is key in the college game and the metrics favor ISU. (plus the Hilton trump card).

My Pick is 71-65 ISU.

NBC Sports listed UT at ISU in their Best Bets column:

Texas, coming off of an impressive win at home against Kansas, now heads on the road to take on the Cyclones in Hilton Coliseum.

Isn’t life in the Big 12 fun?

Texas will grind you down defensively, but they’ve actually shown to be pretty capable of playing small this season even it their win over Kansas came because they played big. And while this group is now just 1-4 on the road with the one win coming against a Dean Wade-less Kansas State team, their three Big 12 road losses were by an average of three points. That includes a loss at Kansas.

PICKS: Iowa State is might just be the best team in the Big 12, and I do think that they win this game, but if the line creeps up towards the Cyclones (-10), then I would probably lean the Longhorns. Their record doesn’t quite show how good they have been against a monstrous schedule.

I view the paint as being key to the game. Lard, Jacobson, and Conditt IV need to hold their ground and stay away from early foul issues. Do that and I see a somewhat comfortable 82-70 Clone Win!

Lard needs to stay out of foul trouble in this game. If he does, I think the Cyclones can win this by double digits.

Man, I think that if Lard is playing his best and avoids fouls, and Wigginton is even remotely productive on offense, there’s not many teams we can’t beat. Haliburton has been cash money all season, NWB has been quietly impressive, and THT has been improving steadily. If this trend continues. . . I’d better not even allow myself to think these thoughts so I can avoid heartbreak!

All that said, yeah I agree with this. Can’t count on shooting 60+% vs Texas as I think they’re a solid team, but based on trends I think we win by 5+, but Texas never lets it out of reach.

Gotta watch out because Kansas’s recent slipping might be giving these other teams (especially Texas!) some confidence and even more reason to bring their best game at this point, because the Big XII is up for grabs right now.
