Five remain from 9,000+ nominations for 774 restaurants. If your place isn't represented, remember to nominate them next year. That's how this contest works.
Now, for the names.

Unfortunately it's going to be a while before I can eat a pork tenderloin again. Too bad because a few of those places would be a good day trip for lunch

This is how you know it's a legit competition.

Winner from 2 years ago can't even stay open.
And the winner from last year increased their pork loin sales tremendously.

It's OK if you don't like tenderloins or pork in general or pigs or people who raise pigs, but to imply it's not a legitimate contest is wrong.

I'm just being cheeky. I do love tenderloins. And I'm sure the winner each year gets a great bump for about a year. You'd do that with any content, or being featured on shows like DDD or whatnot.

I didn't really look into how the contest works so I'll withdraw my critique. But you have to admit its more a promotional avenue than pure best tasting contests.

Also I just noticed the top 40 get judged by the committee so that does make it a lot more legit. I thought it was top 5 fan vote, then go from there.

They have changed some of the procedures over the years, too, probably to address some of those issues, and to maintain interest. If the same place kept winning it would be pretty suspect.

Well I get that for contest purposes, the winner needs to be retired for X amount of years, but I don't think it would be suspect as you say. If you have the best one Year X, it's not like 10 places are legit going to jump you in a year X+1, you'd still at least be top 2 or 3. The best is the best for a reason.

That being said, yes they need to switch it up for more representation and to give acknowledgement to the different establishments doing Iowa Pork.

Gotta switch it up. NC Iowa has had 3 finalists in 20+ years. One winner I was in that place once and didn’t order due to fear.

I’ve never eaten at any of those places. @Erik4Cy aren’t you from Jamaica? Is ToJo’s legit?
Tojos is very legit... About an inch or more thick. Larger than bun.

I've helped judge in previous years. It's totally legit. I've had the pleasure of judging 2 runners up including Whatcha Smoking tenderloin.

Stumpy's is also great. Had theirs a couple times.
