I keep seeing this phrase in all the summary of the project: "redevelopment of the seating areas for hillside seating and the marching band." I just wonder what they specifically have in mind.
My speculation:
Same concourse as the south side allowing for future expansion. Hillsides won't change much other than being enclosed by a concrete wall. Imagine the south endzone minus the bleachers & Sukup. The vehicle access ramps will remain on either side of the Jacobson, so the concourse will stop there with a connection bridge enclosing the Jacobson on the north side. They'll probably need to clip off the corners of the paper airplane because the concourse will be right at roof level. Standing room and temporary bleachers on the north concourse could push total capacity beyond 62,000.
As for the band my hope is that rather than splitting the ensemble with two sets of temporary bleachers, they knock the protruding middle platform off the south deck of the Jacobson and build a permanent connected set of bleachers custom tailored for a marching band. Ask a sousaphone how inconvenient typical bleachers are; especially when you always have to be positioned at the very top.

I think a lot of the enclosure will be from a new building built in place of the Olson Building, since that will be demolished. $65-80 million can do a lot of things.
Yeah, that's a large chunk of change- and as much as I'd love to see it spent on Jack Trice, I hope the largest chunk goes towards making a FANTASTIC student athlete center as Campbell seems to believe it'll be a crucial recruiting tool.
I may be reading this wrong, but aren’t they just demolishing the Olson, keeping the Jacobson and the new/big building will be connected to the Fball facility where the parking lots currently are?
How about adding a kids section like the park just outside of Wrigley Field, then add seats to the hills that match south end zone.

Any idea how much property tax ISU pays on this property? They are not quite like any other real estate owner.
It reads to me like 2 separate things: expanding Bergstrom *and* building new academic and nutrition center. Can they fit all that in the parking lots? I have no idea. It could definitely be a similar enclosure like the south end zone too.
It would seem that there can't be any renderings until the regents allow the planning process to begin.
Yeah, ive been expecting something similar to how the SEZ went: approval for planning\design in feb, renderings\plans and approval to begin construction in may, and things moving onward from there (exactly what is being constructed determining what begins immediately, or what happens after the end of the season)

I’m really hoping they try to incorporate the new buildings into the NEZ in any fashion to get it to somewhat resemble the SEZ; they knocked that design outta the park IMO.

New addition to the east of the football facility (lot 85W area), that will mainly be nutrition/dining and academic services space for all student athletes.
Some redevelopment and improvements inside the current football facility.
The Olsen building removed and the functions it serves either moved to an addition to the west of Bergstrom indoor or into the Jacobson building.
New entryways on the north side of the stadium, modification to hillside seating (likely to accommodate a connected concourse), and new seating for the band.

I almost guarantee the work on the north side of the stadium will be done in such a way to accommodate enclosing the north end at some point in the future. But the stadium is not where the bulk of the money is going in this project, its more an improvement and planning for future than a fix/finished product for the north end.
This project is all about giving Campbell and staff improved and new facilities they want connected to the football facility (while also giving improved facilities to other sports as well).
