Man I had everything set up and now it reverted back again to being gone. Guess I'll keep waiting again. Interesting how there's all of a sudden all this disruption that makes it harder for new and existing members to see political info a month and a half before the election.
It looks like they had to reset everything back to the new default again about an hour ago. I guess I get why they are doing it but while they reset everybody it would be nice if they ran the cron job to process people's changes more often than every 2 hours.

I understand that, but was there really this mass of people who didn't know you could opt out? That seems crazy to me. But then again I know that most everyone pretty much sticks to the default settings on everything so maybe I'm wrong.

It's gotta be advertisers/people with pull. They'd ignore the whiny ones.

Maybe someone high up in the state government. Not quite the governor but not just a junior member either. I can't quite figure out who it might be.
Post #3 tells you all you need to know. That's where pressure was applied.

Again, I apologize but sometimes a 10 second inconvenience is outweighed by the number of people that very much want or need those non-sports forums or non-ISU posts from being so prevalent. Understandable frustration, but some things are beneficial to help the site exist and still allow either/or customization.

In regards to being able to set a preference on which sub forums you see and/or being able to "hide" a thread, get more granular message controls, etc...

I don't maintain the code or features any longer. I only jump in when there is something that I think;

1 - Will make a big benefit to the community and don't want to wait for others to decide and act due to urgency ( ;) ). Example would be the mandatory but dismissable and scheduled news alerts as a way to route traffic for a flood of contentious conversations around a school shooting.

Or

2 - There is something I really want and don't want to ask for... and can ask for forgiveness( ;) ). Example would be reactions (so I could dumb posts) or thread node filtering on newest posts page.

If you would like to request/suggest new features, I would post in the Site Related Forum and allow others to weight in. That allows @ChrisMWilliams a way to see and consider such posts.

again, in a state with two very competitive House races. Just got a text about the Bohannan race in a slate of 5 key races to watch.

I have set my preferences to opt in, but am still not seeing the politics or in-state forums? Is there more I need to do or is just not ready yet?

I think that’s just the default screen when you don’t have access to something (I see it when looking at someone’s profile that has their posts hidden) and I’m pretty sure that isn’t a super fanatic feature.
It looks like Jer had to do another update.

Yes, thank you, WooBadger18. Things appear to be working now. I will try to repost the current results from the Tippie Markets in Presidential Candidates if it's not showing yet.

I’d also add that CF has grown a lot and added more content with a more active social media presence. With that you’re going to attract more Millennial and GenZ users, who tend to be more liberal than their boomer and GenX counterparts.

That’s all I’ll say outside the cave.
And then you have us old guys who have been on there for 1000 years.

It will be an improvement. It's probably how it should be.

@Jer can we add Ticket Exchange to the list of opt-in forums? Or maybe just all 7 of the General - Non ISU forums?

Ticket exchange is exhausting to wade through during the sports seasons, and I have zero interest in seeing any of it.

Can you opt out? The nice thing about having it visible is that non frequent CF visitors can easily access it. I really don't care either way just expressing a viewpoint.

You can filter it out. But then you get a big block listing of your filtered forums at the top of your list.

Not exactly sure.

I would make that opt out if anything. Many will just swing by to sell tickets and use it as a place to flip tickets.

A website that generally trends younger and college educated tilts left when educational attainment and age have been key dividers in polling for many years now? Shocking.

Also, if you actually look into the "liberals" in the cave, probably half are former republicans. The cave was known as the 'conservacave' for years.
So “liberals” can’t be “liberals” if they’re former Republicans? Hit me with some of that higher-educated liberal logic and explain that to me. Isn’t a liberal a liberal, even if said liberal used to think correctly at one point in their life?
