UPDATE 9/17 9:00am:

I have finally been able to reset the value for everybody so the majority of user that were suddenly seeing unwanted threads, should now not see them.

Yes, you may hate me for it (lol if that's what finally pushes you over that line) but you will need to go back in and opt-in to either/both of the forums. This should be the last time.

@Jer, wanted to give you a heads up that the system is apparently not saving preferences. I was opted in this morning and now am no longer opted in.

You don’t need to push this through, I can just wait the two hours, but I wanted to give you a heads up.

I tried to post on Presidential Candidates thread, was informed that I needed to pay a monthly fee, and cannot see any of those threads at present.

UPDATE 9/17 9:00am:

I have finally been able to reset the value for everybody so the tens of thousands that were suddenly seeing unwanted threads, that should now be resolved.

We need opt out/a ala carte with every forum on the site.

Seems like this would also be a good time to remind people how to filter the forums to customize their default view

Ha. I didn't even know this is a thing. For others like me who had no idea...

1) Start on the Forums Home Page
2) Press the three dots in the upper right next to "Forum List"
3) Select only the things you want to see.
4) Click Save.

That's will now be your default. You can clear or adjust filters, but it will go back to the default until you save it differently.

I think that’s just the default screen when you don’t have access to something (I see it when looking at someone’s profile that has their posts hidden) and I’m pretty sure that isn’t a super fanatic feature.
It looks like Jer had to do another update.

Jeez. This is getting ridiculous over a couple of whiners who don't know how to scroll past things they don't like.

Yep, and the update booted me out of those threads I had previously opted in to.

I still don't understand what exactly the change is. People could always opt out. So what exactly is resetting?

Not just every forum but every thread.

Not just every forum but every thread.
It’s going from opt-out to opt-in so the default will be to not see the politics threads. The result really is that the not super engaged posters will go from seeing the politics threads to not seeing them.

I understand that, but was there really this mass of people who didn't know you could opt out? That seems crazy to me. But then again I know that most everyone pretty much sticks to the default settings on everything so maybe I'm wrong.

Yeah maybe 2 or 3 times a month someone comes in says some weak talking points and then exclaims I don't want to see this stuff.
