This would end up with the PAC 12 trying to steal OU and TX away. Don't fall for this ploy. Football in the money maker. Basketball, I could see a challenge or alliance but not football.
Yes, everything revolves around football first, as it should at most athletic programs. K-State football (direct) revenue was $42 million compared to $9 million from MBB last year. But hoops would be a natural alliance extension if anything ever came of this in the future. The article only talked about football right? I love the scheduling idea for the fans but it'd be tough to get AD's and coaches to agree. Even if this idea didn't fly, they could still work with the pac 12 in some capacity. I think it would be cool to see some of the conference vs conference challenges we see in bball to also take place in football. I think this is still all just talk to fill the time until the TV contracts are up. The pac 12 renegotiates a year prior to us, it'll be interesting to see how that shakes out for them. I wouldn't want to commit to anything as far as expansion or an alliance until after that. The big 12 could be in a very actionable position if things don't go well in 2024.
To be honest, I really like the idea of a Pac12 / Big 12 alliance. But that's just me.
ISU and Kansas will slide into the Big 10 very smoothly.
Read the OP article. The only reason to have some sort of an alliance is that it benefits both leagues. What benefit would there be to the Big 12? PAC is the league which is hurting and needs more exposure. What are they going to give the Big 12?
I'd presume dates in Ames with UDub, UO and USC and other sexy matchups but obviously they'll occur rarely (if at all). The only reason to have some sort of an alliance is that it benefits both leagues. Per Pac 12 newspapers...the Pac 12 network is hemorrhaging money faster than a lottery winner in a brothel. Their sports have little national coverage and their power schools in football look like a pipe whacked Nancy Kerrigan. But pay no attention to that...come join us in a grand football alliance where we (Pac 12)....errrrr, we (all of us) stand to benefit.Read the OP article.
For starters; UA & ASU. Make the big 12 whole and split N/S again which would help pacify OU fans. The only reason to have some sort of an alliance is that it benefits both leagues. Almost burnt once by the Texa$-Oklahoma land grab...screw me once, shame on you...screw me twice, shame on me.
Yes, ISU would slide in very nicely, however it won't due to the B1G's model tied to their B1G network. Iowa is already covered and ISU isn't a national brand, so the B1G won't take them.
You see this is just the opposite of what you fear. Rather than raiding, this is a proposal that does not merge the leagues but shares their strengths by scheduling one another. The P12 TV network has a ton of infrastructure that very well might, I say might be useful to plains universities like ours since we have none other than Texas, of course.Per Pac 12 newspapers...the Pac 12 network is hemorrhaging money faster than a lottery winner in a brothel. You're right, it is the Pac that's hurting which is why an alliance would have to help the big 12 more than the Pac 12. What that entails I'm not entirely sure.
But I really like the idea of the Pac 12 teams (any of them) in Ames on the regular. And the chance to spread the Gospel of Cy to the west coast.

And UT and OU see is that when all rights are accounted for, their Big12 dollars are competitive with what the SEC and Big 10 are getting, and they get to absolutely run the show in the Big 12.We're better off until OU gets a B10 or SEC invite. And not looking at advancing the model but rather going to the cave is a bad strategy for any management group, see Sears. ISU and K-State are amongst those most at risk here and should be supportive of ideas that might strengthen the B12.
