Thanks Bryceman. I will consider it in the future but this is my first LCD TV so I want to go with a trusted brand.

If i get this LCD HDTV will i get the shows that says HD on the info for Mediacom? Meaning if I get a HDTV what channels or shows do I get on HD or do I have to subscribe to the HDTV channels for $9.95?

They do have 40" LCD TV's also, I have a 40" Samsung that is great and the only complaint that I have is that it only has 2 HDMI inputs and that isn't much of a problem to have.

Brian is there any site or disc that you know of that would help me calibrate my TV? It is still something I haven't done but want to.

Best thing to do is get DVD essentials or Avia:

[ame=http://www.amazon.com/Digital-Video-Essentials-Entertainment-Component/dp/B00005PJ70/ref=pd_bbs_sr_2/105-8921147-7647630?ie=UTF8&s=dvd&qid=1191461104&sr=8-2]Amazon.com: Digital Video Essentials: Optimize Your Home Entertainment System (NTSC Component): DVD: Digital Video Essentials[/ame]

Just get the dvd, put it in, follow the directions and you are pretty good. Not as good as a pro, but you WILL notice a major difference. Totally worth it, and only takes about an hour.

I suggest anyone looking at buying a tv to take a look at this website:

AVS Forum

These people are crazy about their tv's and they have reviews for about anything you are looking for. At just a quick glance it looked like the Panaxonic 32LX700 got good reviews.

Isn't LT from the Chargers the spokesman for Vizio? And has anybody looked at Tigerdirect or Newegg.com for these? I almost bought one this summer, but I wasn't sure about the quality.

Reading the user reviews on that product have me kind of leary, did you have any difficulty? Do you consider yourself just the casual/casual + AV head? I mean by that I know more than the basics and am pretty good picking up things quickly when it comes to electronics but am by no means a trained pro.

It is not rocket surgery. It gives you a screen, and says adjust xxx until you get the pattern to look like this. Then you do the next, and repeat repeat repeate. I used Avia last time. It was about the same thing.

Toshiba is the best up to 42 inch

If you want a 42 inch aside from Toshiba, defenitly get a Panasonic. Their 42 is by far the most popular and reliable, most bars use em. Samsung used to be cheap crap but they resolved to be a high quality elite brand and their quality is way up. Sorry Sony slaves but the last few years the quality of all their products is way way down.

Where do the LG's stack up with these other brands mentioned above? I was thinking they were really hot but they haven't been mentioned yet.

I have a 42" LCD LG. It's awesome. Probably should have got a larger screen,:smile:but it's an unbelievably clear bright picture.

We have a 32" Toshiba Regza and really like it, very good combination of price and quality.

Avia? Do you have a link for that? I think we need to fix our picture a bit, but other than buying a reliable brand, etc. I am lost. At times we get pixalization on dark color scenes. I don't know, if it is the channel (non HD) or b/c we have the settings wrong.

I am looking for a 40" tv. It will be at a second home, so no need for any bigger. I have looked mostly at Samsungs to this point. Also probably will need 2 smaller tvs for daughter's rooms. Other than obvious choices of Best Buy and American, any other suggestions for locations near Des Moines?
thanks

I use DVD essentials so I cannot comment on how Avia is.

Traviss is where i got my last TV. They are willing to negotiate on the price which BB and American will not do. Plus there is free delivery and setup, and their initial prices are lower than BB or American.

They have a wickedly bad website: Index

Those guys at Traviss sure do know their stuff though and I feel I did very well on the cost of our TV from them.
