As a Hawk fan, I would say the key matchup for us is generating some semblance of chunk plays. The offense needs to have 20+ yard pass plays and 10+ yard running plays in order to be effective. I don't think that Iowa has the offensive ability to drive consistently down the field, with shorter gains on each play, and win the game.

As a corollary, if Iowa can get a short field, similar to what ISU did against, UNI, that would minimize the need for longer, chunk plays.

The special teams will be an interesting matchup also. The great field position ISU had really gave us a great advantage over UNI.

I'm looking forward to seeing Dale Pierson vs that young left tackle--what's his name? Boone Myers? For that matter, Trent Taylor vs Boettger could be fun to watch, too.

Agree with some other posters, I am excited to see if the revamped defense can truly stop a good running team. If they can stand up to it, we have a great shot at winning the game.

    **** Iowa!!!

Yeah, I'm really interested in seeing how both our lines perform. Can our D-line get pressure against what is, for Iowa, probably a subpar line? Can our O-line contain what is probably a pretty decent D-line for Iowa? If we control the line of scrimmage I'll start to feel pretty good about this season.

Agree 100%, I think Iowa's line is pretty young especially on the edges, which is where we have the most depth and speed, I see, Pierson, Taylor, Thomas, and Luna having big games.... Which ever team reacts to the pressure best will win.....

We need to make their linebackers play pass coverage on someone other than Boesen. That happens, I think we have great mismatches. Their corners looked solid but they didn't have to play much defense because their qb was getting swallowed by Ott within seconds.

Our D-Line vs their O-Line. If the D-Line is gonna be as good as we hope they will be this season this is a match up they have to win.

I'm curious if KF will throw caution to the wind this week vs ISU. 4th downs, and gambles....tossing out "His" percentages. I feel like I've seen this outta KF a little before in the opener and then it disappears, not just against ISU, but against other teams.

I see all these fan accolades for King but he wasn't even honorable mention B1G last year by the coaches. Why is that

Iowa plays a quarter/quarter/half defense. They play it nearly exclusively. They aren't going to change their defensive sets to account for Lazard. He's a good player but no where near THAT good where Iowa needs to change defensive alignments to account for him.
