Is there any way to listen to the call in show after the fact?

no update on newell but it sounds like what happened to kyle kempt last year

hopefully he is back by late October so not a full year recovery
that is my guess

he was a beast today but u have to build depth to have consistent success
got 2 weeks to get this line ready to beat iowa
if not im sure they will be looking fine by big 12 play

Plenty of teams it wasn't easy for today, Tennessee, Stanford, Nebraska, Florida State, etc etc.

Haven't read the whole thread but between a blowout of UNI vs coming from behind on several occasions and winning the game in 3 OT's, I actually prefer the latter. It will give the team confidence in close games going forward. I think there will be at least one game where I'll be saying coming from behind to win the UNI game helped us win this one.

Also, let's give some credit to UNI for their fight, especially their QB who made clutch plays.

It was a strange game for sure. ISU essentially made no big plays in the game. No big gainers on offense, no turnovers on defense, and nothing from special teams. Given the disparity in yards gained, and a lack of UNI rushing game, you need a weird game to keep UNI in it, not to mention a kicker nailing those FG's in his first game. It's morally depleting to make what is a good play last year (the blind block), and have it be a personal foul this year. The helmet call was crap as that play fires the team up and then a flag just deflates an awesome team effort play.

UNI was a rock mentally and didn't hand ISU an inch. The ISU o-line was so inconsistent today. They came out focused on the scoring drive to open the 2nd half, and then just kind of mailed it in as if they expected to pull away. It didn't happen. Play calling on short yardage situations was odd. Purdy never ran the ball and never even appeared to look deep. It was also really strange that this d-line couldn't force a turnover on a true freshman QB. I think the strangest part was that this ISU team clearly had better athletes, and that hasn't always been apparent in years past, so this dogfight is a surprise to me.

There sure seem to be some patterns. ISU isn't polished early in the year and downright not good at times. The offense has not been even average during Campbell's tenure. The only thing that gives me some solace was that the run blocking had some good things at times compared to previous seasons. How does Good-Jones get beat like a drum this many times? Why Meeker? The line lacks focus.

campbell is the october wizard
that trend will most likely continue through his tenure
was the same at toledo
u will get head scratchers every september and november

i almost think he does it on purpose to keep expectations of the fanbase in line
and a reason why he likes iowa state is because he knows they will let him do it
im not saying he doesnt want to win every game but sometimes he is like if we cant win with a basic non gimmick attack then we are not good enough to move to the next level

i may be overthinking this
i love the october wizard tho

You know what, I had a GREAT time today! That was my first game @ the upgraded JTS, and it is AWESOME inside and out. So, so much better than when I was in school and a young alum so many years ago. Plus, I snapped my personal 2 game losing streak to UNI (1992 and 1994)! Just glad ISU won, because I did forget my nut cup today! :p Let's Go State! 1 down and 1 to go!

If it works it works, but did it actually work? What are we trying to do on offense, besides not put the defense in bad spots? Is that going to improve on 8-5?

What’s odd is to have that approach, but then pass on 4th and 1 from midfield with under 4 minutes in the half (following a pass on 3rd and 1). Also, that low percentage play on the pass out-bounds on the fg drive in the fourth. Actually, the sequence of calls on the last drive of the 4th left a lot to be desired imo, although desperation made it work.

Let’s be desperate more often. That’s how UNI generated all of their offense despite being outmatched at nearly every spot.

The teams in these disappointing close wins like UNI deserve credit for not making mistakes, but that’s likely a product of our offense.

There are games to be desperate in. Uni shouldn't be one. Remember two years ago we scored two defensive touchdowns, and scored on a 4th down play, or that game would have been a dogfight too.

It shouldn’t be, but it was. And desperation should not be needed to get the offense to score, but again, it was.

A philosophy that requires UNI to make multiple mistakes of the magnitude of giving up defensive TDs in order for ISU to avoid desperation and 3OTs isn’t a good philosophy.

Get the offense to play more like we do when the staff feels like we need to score a lot to be in the game, and we can take the next step.

Prior to the game, if you were asked what the odds would be that the game would go into overtime if the following occurred,

1) UNI’s offense would not score a touchdown.

2) That UNI would only attempt two field goals, one just over 50 yards and one just under 50 yards.

3) UNI would not have any big gains on punt or kickoff returns.

4) Iowa state would gain twice as many yards as UNI

5) Iowa State would have only one turnover.

I would have said the chances under those circumstances of an overtime game would have been virtually zero.

But it did. Obviously, a lot had to go right or wrong for that to happen. A few,

1) Key game changing calls virtually all broke UNI’s way.

2) UNI played close to error free. No turnovers, sound defense/special teams. Gave up no big plays.

3) Iowa States conservative/vanilla play calling and sound UNI defense forced Iowa State into long drives. Which put a premium on not making mistakes (dropped passes, penalties). ISU seemed to always make a mistake that they couldn’t recover from, resulting in ending promising drives.

4) Iowa States decision not to stretch the field with down field passing or allowing Purdy to run on the RPO allowed a well coached sound UNI team under those conditions to dramatically limit Iowa State’s scoring.

UNI didn't score a touchdown on the ISU defense. I refuse to accept that horrible call on the drop in the endzone. The call on the Purdy fumble was identical to the UNI one earlier in the game, so that was pretty well BS too.

Bottom like, ISU needs to block better and they need to get Purdy out of the pocket once in a while. It is what he does best.
Well and if you take out overtime, our defense never gave up a td. In overtime a team starts with the ball basically in the red zone so I don’t take into account that very much.

We just got home from the game, so I have not read the whole thread, but what I saw today.
1. The defense overall played great, 32 yards rushing, only complaint would be little pressure on the QB.
2. Offense was vanilla the whole game, to me we never set the tone for the game. The first drive we are at the 49, 4th and a yard, we punt. Screw that, we are the team that is ranked, its at home, the whole offensive line is back. The staff needed to send the message to UNI and our offense, that we are picking this up. Instead we played Freerents football and punt. Sometime you have to play with swagger and just take it too the other team. We did not do that, and allowed UNI to stick around.

Mess around, fool around, and before long you will not be around. That was ISU today, even though we pulled out the win.

I actually thought we put plenty of pressure on the quarterback, the wily bastard just kept escaping it.
