Would like to compliment the OL tonight. They are showing good improvement? I have not seen the game yet (looking forward to the replay on cyclone.tv), but based on what I'm hearing, and the run game results, they are going in the right direction.

And no QB sacks again tonight! That is big. The pass protection! I'm hearing that TCU averages 3 QB sacks/game, 0 tonight.

There’s something still not right with the defense that is fairly concerning. It’s beyond just the pass rush being a half second to late and tackling a little better.
Linebackers were a little out of position a lot in the first half.

Puts more pressure on secondary.

Appeared to be much better in the second half.

Champagne problems: please make leaving the S lots more efficient. Ridiculous to sit in traffic for an hour + to leave the stadium.

The troopers running the traffic (when they are there at all) don't let traffic from the S-lots out at all for large stretches. Its been pretty terrible a couple years now but it feels like it has gotten worse this year.

I put it along with the complaint that cars are allowed to turn onto university from 16th instead of all being sent to duff. (and then around if they need to head west). If those were all headed west, they could then have 2-lanes coming out of the s-lots (S1-4 on the right, S5-8 on the left), both directed south on university

We’re an engineering school. Get the civic nerds on this already.

This first one is the Rulzzz Prediction contest winner, but the other 3 also deserve a mention. @jctisu wins because while at times TCU moved the ball the defense always got a stop starting with Will which was so appropriate because of Jack's I Will note. I do believe while yes our Cyclones get better every game I think Jack's presence was in that stadium tonight and helped our guys. They wanted this for Jack and his family as much if not more than the fans did. As @cytor post says the Cyclones made Jack very proud tonight.

Please football Gods let this be a game where everything just clicks for no rhyme or reason other than the fact Iowa State deserves to win this game because of Jack and what’s going on today. I mean a bunch of fluke bounces our way, strange stuff happening to benefit us, etc as if Jack himself is making it happen but you just can’t see it.

We build a comfortable lead but we also won by a comfortable margin.
I think we get off to a great start, build a comfortable lead, then go into cruise control. TCU mounts a comeback bid late, but falls short. 38-34 ISU.

I full understand the other side of this statement but it has felt since they announced it that there is just no way we lose this game.

No way ISU loses today. The Cyclones will make Jack proud.

We are very young on both sides of the ball, and the defense is struggling to get up to speed, but getting there. There is nothing like experience of being on the field, and right now we are still struggling at times with being young.

It would also help if the defensive staff would evolve the defense more, KSU is playing the same defense, but have taken it too the next level, lots of blitzing and moving people around more. That is what our defense needs to do, take it too the next level.

Yep. Shouldn’t be allowing any traffic from 16th to university. Duff was a ghost town when we finally got onto 30.

I was at the stadium and haven’t had a chance to rewatch it yet, but it really seemed live like our (young) linebackers REALLY struggled to fill gaps in the run game.

TCU ran the same outside run play repeatedly.. it looked like the RB for TCU #9 just read it outside-in. They would pull a guard/TE and then just play it depending on how the tackle faired against our end.

our DE would (usually) set the edge forcing the RB inside, but there would be a pulling guard or TE who would just maul our linebacker and leave a gaping hole for that #9. If our LB got off the block or if the dline managed to make it a pile we had success.. but WAY too many easy yards on first down.

Again, I haven’t rewatched, but it felt like our LB run fits were pretty bad today. Maybe it was more the d line than I thought, but I felt like our ends played okay in the run game overall.

Fortunately our secondary is really good.

As it stands now, the combined record of the 3 teams who beat us is 16-2. Ohio is 5-1 too

Ohio is a salty squad. No excuses, we should have figured out a way to beat them, but it will end up not being an embarrassing loss.

And Iowa? jfk, we just always seem to crap the bed. Truly frustrating.

But can’t look back. Two winnable road games coming up. 5-3 would be great for a young squad.
