Re: NOT A GREAT GAME! We are NOT ready to

Well, if you can't see one whole hell of a lot of improvement against a top 20 team, a game most figured that they'd lose 42-27, I can't help ya.

I'd even say that was three quarters, and not just a half. Still progress.

What was the moral victory here?

That was a chance for our program to take a big step forward. Like always, we pissed it down our leg. Being competitive doesn't cut it. Almost winning doesn't count.
When your at this point with our program, almost winning against a top 20 program is a huge building block.

We played well against a Top 20 team yes, but our program had a chance to really step up here and it again didn't quite happen.

Same with OU last year. It's so close we can taste it but it's not there yet...

Good things coming in hte future but... we're so close to getting it now and it keeps slipping out of our fingers

Negative repback? Please?

When the going got tough, we got back in the game. And were a heartbeat away from winning. This was a big step forward--just not an immense one.

Re: Good teams do not put themselves into the positions

we were in today... Young, dropped passes, overthrows, defense mindf...s,.... I want us to be a good team and we will. Good game? Bull - some good PLAYS maybe.
How can you say a 2 point game that featured a recovered onside kick (against a top 20 team), and came down to essentially the last play wasn't a good game?

win. Nobody consistently imposed their will. They didn;t quit, but they couldn't put more than half a game together ... again.

I agree about this group not being able to play a full half.

But wow, it's not like we didn't give ourselves a chance to win at the end. I guess I didn't realize that we were supposed to be competing for Big 12 titles in Coach Chizk's second year, especially when he was left a four year rebuild.

Plus, the North Division is not the pillow fight that it was a couple years ago either.

It was an entertaining game. We did not play a good game for long stretches. Like I said - we had some great plays, but not a good game.

You have to admit though that it is frustrating to watch other teams around the country not only come close but pull away with an upset win. Iowa State traditionally never does it. The other team always strives to get by us.

Great game, minus the 3rd quarter. I feel good about the rest of the season, much better than I did after the last couple losses. I can honestly see 3 wins in the next 3 weeks.

Find me 1 post where I've quit on this team. Not a single one. But at this stage I will not take any moral victories. Great effort? At times. Dropped passes, blown defensive assignments... Great effort in bad tackling. Great effort in dropping CRUCIAL passes. We're not a good team but we WILL be.

That was a great game, if we had won, it may have been one of the greatest wins in ISU history. I'm sick of people being negative about it. We had no business playing Kansas that closely. It is disappointing loss because we had opportunities- but we played better then I expected with a very young team. Watch out next year, Big12.

Re: Good teams do not put themselves into the positions

If RJ makes the catch, and GM makes a FG would it have been a good game then?

A win is a good game. A win for a program like us is a good game. It doesn't make us a good team. This was an entertaining game.... not a good game.

MrGreg, I have lost count, over the years that I have been watching Iowa State football how many chances that we have had to take a big step forward, and blew it. But you do have to crawl before you can run. This team has shown that they have more Big 12 caliber athletes than I can ever remember.

Is it just that we don't quite have the horses on the DL and OL? Do you guys think the play calling was ok?

No.... I hated the fourth and 1 play call going from shotgun formation. Why not line up under center and let our O line get us the yards?? We ran that qb read play WAY too often after the first two series and KU adjusted and shut it down but we kept calling it. AA is not Vince Young (yet!), we shouldn't run that play more than three times a game.

Oddly enough, it's a process. You simply don't change a team at the drop of a hat--and you can't deny that they are making progress.

Baylor's up next. And decidedly winnable.

This competetive game will put us on TV in the future, too.

Just like McCarney's teams, this team MUST learn how to win. This team hasn't grasped that EVERY play for our program is a "must win". Chiz will get this group into a position where they know how to win, where every play has absolute meaning. That comes with more physical and mental toughness and experience that can only come..... with experience.

None of those players will tell you it was a good game.

Frankly I don't think it's wrong here to have wanted more out of this game.

We had some great play, showed some resilliance, but we had a chance to make a huge statement here and didn't.

People are starting to revert to the Dan McCarney **** and are taking the moral victory. Gene Chizik isn't about Moral victories. I'll be he even says it in post game interviews.

It's ok to show some freak'n emotion here people. Melt down no, but emotion yes.

Gah I need a Dr. Pepper
