Drew has done well with diminutive guards. I still think Hoiberg missed not going after Lester Medford. There’s also been Chery and Jackson.

You’d probably not be surprised at the number of guys that want to get the **** out of Iowa and get anywhere south as fast as possible so there’s no reason to even go after them. Medford case in point.

Otherwise why would those guys come here behind Luscious/Kane/Monte?

Matt Bain on ISU recruiting Tyler Harris.
Curious if he knows something or is speculating with the "There are several potential transfer candidates on Iowa State's roster this season," comment?

Even though it has Wisconsin's Tyrese Haliburton signed, Iowa State has not shut the door on Tyler Harris, a three-star lightning-rod point guard from Memphis, Tennessee, who's one of the country's best remaining 2018 prospects. The Cyclones built good relationships with Harris and those close to him while recruiting him these past couple years, and those relationships don't just go away. Iowa State was in Memphis to see Harris multiple times in January, along with Memphis, Mississippi State, Baylor, Colorado State and Tennessee.

There are several potential transfer candidates on Iowa State's roster this season, so coaches are making sure they're still in good position with Harris, should a scholarship open up.
The spring basketball signing period runs from April 11 to May 16. In an ideal world, Iowa State would know if one of its players is going to transfer by then. And thus, Harris would know if Ames has a spot for him by the time he needs to make his final decision.

Of course, he could also decide tomorrow. The Harris camp has been very closed off regarding his recruitment.

But until the Cyclones know if they have an open scholarship or not, they can't realistically go full-throttle after Harris, unlike Baylor, Memphis, Mississippi State and Tennessee, who all do have an open 2018 scholarship. Plus, Iowa State already has a 2018 point guard it really likes in Haliburton.

If Steve Prohm and his staff can somehow land Harris in addition to Haliburton, great for them. There's a reason major powers have jumped into the mix since Harris didn't sign in November. He's an undersized bulldog who will immediately make a college team better.

Seems like he is jut speculating.

Although he would play a ton next year and fill a pipeline need, I doubt it’s anything more than the staff making sure they have some type of chance in the unlikely event they have a guard opening. Staffs never stop recruiting top uncommitted prospects like Harris. I hope they’re in contact with a forward or two, too.

Harris waited until spring. I mean, it’s a smart move on his part, but was it just to see how high his stock would increase in the spring seller’s market while also enjoying the recruiting process, or was he specifically waiting for a certain offer? Maybe to see if Memphis fires Tubby and hires Penny?

one positive out of the short bench the rest of the season is players will be able to see where there game is at with real minutes. I am hoping we see growth from Lewis even if we get shalacked the rest of the way

No really. What is your reasoning? I am honestly interested because I don't understand this line of thinking.

It's almost invariably accompanied by "he's not going to get minutes next year" or some other nonsense opinion like that. No reason to put that **** in a kid's head. They're here, they're Cyclones, we should support them until they say they're not (and I'll support them regardless).

Because one of the biggest selling points of many teams is its supportive fan base. Such speculation has caused other programs to lose guys they want and scare off ones they’re pursuing.

The numbers still work if you leave out names. Seriously, it’s not exactly a complicated puzzle in which variables need to be explicitly defined. If there’s any chance of downside, why risk it since there’s no upside?
