I guess where my mind winds up is that we may feel like we are in a little "slump" offensively, but we've managed to keep the ship pretty steady. Milan being out and Heise not being what we'd hoped for offensively is causing us to have to figure somethings out on the fly. The spacing with certain groups of the floor is brutal, and developing rotations is hard so many guys that can't shoot. Despite that, we are winning more games than we are losing and Milan is only a few weeks away. Just keep things on the tracks for the next few weeks, get healthy and go on your run when it matters most.
We're fine. We're a 60 foot heave away from all of us being extremely happy instead of extremely disappointed. Baylor game last year at the time feels similar to how I feel now.

When Fred was coach.....I can't remember his name from Okie State, but was one the nations best free throw shooters miss the back end of a 1-1 only to have Naz Long go down and tie it up at the buzzer and then ISU going on and winning in OT after being behind a majority of the game.

Crap happens.

Imo both Duke and Auburn are as good as Uconn was last year. I think this ISU team is also alot better than they were last year and it appears headed for the exact same seed line.
You mean the Auburn team ISU lost by a tip.
UConn destroyed people last year, the NCAA tourney wasn't even competitive.

I guess will see if those 2 you think are as good as UConn will win their tourney games by an average of 23.3 points

how any turnovers did we have can't win if you can't control the ball

I also think this is a byproduct of having Milan out. Seems like we are really, really trying to force the ball in transition because we don't have a ton of faith in our halfcourt offense. That's lead to some really sloppy play, often times in transition.

I get that Arizona got a lucky buzzard beater to send this to overtime, but this ISU squad completely quit and didn’t bother showing up for overtime. I’m starting to get worried about this team as we looked completely pedestrian against WVU and Arizona. This team isn’t a 1 seed anymore and until they stop playing down to lesser opponents they won’t be the elite team we thought they were.
I completely disagree with this post.
Except for the "buzzard beater" part, which made me chuckle.

it won't line up like that this year, this version of the big 12 is watered down quite a bit compared to last years verson.
Is it? Iowa State and Houston were the only highly ranked teams last year, just like this year. Baylor, Texas Tech, Kansas and BYU were fringe top 20-25 teams.
It's pretty much the same this year. Iowa State and Houston with Kansas, Texas Tech, Baylor and now Arizona being the top 25 teams. West Virginia and BYU could be tourney teams as well, the conference is about the same as last year.

Iowa State also has the Marquette win on their resume in the OOC this year as opposed to, what, last year.
There's room for error for 2-3 more losses to still be in line for a 1 seed. Two will likely come from the SEC, probably Duke who has much less room for error than Iowa State because of their weak conference, and then who, Iowa State or Houston most likely. Maybe Michigan State has an outside shot but they have very little on their resume. Another team with not much room for error.
Most of the strength of college basketball is in the SEC, remarkably so, and we won't see 3 teams from the same conference as a 1 seed.

5 of our next 6 games are very winnable with @KU still being winnable with this group.

We get Milan back shortly.

Floor is probably a 2 seed in the tournament.

Trust the process.
Nothing against Watson or Heise, but we need Milan back to space the floor. Even if he isn’t making more than a bucket or two, teams absolutely cannot leave him alone from deep. They’re slacking off who they’re guarding with the exception of CJ right now from deep and it’s packing the lane making it tougher for Lipsey and Gilbert to get in the lane and for JJ to do his work down low.

Leave it to the forum for people to criticize the teams decisions on a game they didn't even watch! You can't make this up.

Were they unforced turnovers from forcing it into the lane on the dribble or not?

Has that not been a thing all season including what led to Auburn's last possession?

Was listening to the Wildcat Scoop postgame pod with Jason Scheer this morning. He said that game was top 3 game in the Mckay Center all time for him. Crowd was standing most of the game. He was very complimentary of the Cyclones and said they can win the national championship. Said the on-ball defense that ISU plays is elite and can't be simulated in practice. Knows they stole one there.

We didn't play great for a lot of the game (way too many careless turnovers and Jones with some horrible shot selection), but once again found ourselves in position to win based on toughness and grit. Zona clearly decided that someone besides Jones was going to beat them, they executed that plan well. Lewis played great defense all night.

Our defensive effort was great, unlike what we saw @ WVU and 1st 1/2 @ ASU. Guys played hard.

Silver lining -- Lipsey and gilbert picked up the scoring slack, maybe they can ride that wave into the 2nd half of conference play. I think we desperately need more guard scoring balance with Milan out.

Only real reason this hurts is because our realistic goal is NCAA 1 seed (which is really really hard to get).

Its a lucky 60 foot heave, nobody did anything wrong, we just need to move on.

Seems like we could use 5 days off.

#1 seed is out of the question now unless we win at either Houston or Kansas. There's no guarantee we don't slip up in another road game like UCF either.

We are basically competing with Houston and a 2nd SEC school and maybe Michigan St. The rest of our schedule is pretty bad so we don't have alot of chances left for a signature win.
Is there a rule that only #1 seeds can win the natty? Just checking.

UConn was an all time great team, Auburn and Duke have a lot to prove to be considered in the same class as that juggernaut. Auburn does look very impressive no doubt, I don't think Duke is quite on the level of Auburn but hard to tell because they haven't really been tested lately. I think Iowa State could beat any of these teams on a neutral court (should have beat Auburn tbh), I wouldn't have thought the same against UConn last year.
Essentially, I agree with you.

I'm no mathematician, but I'd put the chances of fouling and going to OT or losing in regulation at over 10% for sure. That's not a greater than 10% shot.
Odds of hitting that length of a shot is like 1%. I would think getting a tip in after a missed FT would be higher than that.

IF this team wants to play in elite-8 or final four they have to avoid these holes they put themselves in. Arizona went on 16-0 run and these dry spells have happen a couple times this year. This team is too talented to put themselves in these situations.
