Glad Fowler got his money. Don't want him to be a Cardinal, but had to assume that front office would go after guys that the Cubs had since the Cubs have been poaching them.

Sounds like the Cardinals have offered a 5 year/$75 million deal for Dex. Good for him!

yep. At that price/length of contract I'm perfectly fine watching him walk away. We couldn't have him on the books in year 5 with that high of a figure when he'll be well past his prime and the Cubs have giant payouts coming due for Bryant/Rizzo and the rest of the youngsters.

Yeah...Im not trying to trash Dex here at all, but I will be thrilled if the Cardinals lock him up for 5 years.

after what he did to help the Cubs win the championship, I wouldn't have been too angry if the Cubs brought him back for that, but it wouldn't have been the smart long term move.

We'll miss him next year for sure. I hope he does well, but goes 0-fer against the Cubs

I really wanted for Dex to get paid this offseason, and I am truly happy he did, but this was the one team I didn't want him to go to.

What's interesting is that Heyward went from STL to CHI for 8 yrs, $184,000,000 ($23M AAV) with a players opt-out clause after 3 years. Dex is 5 years, $82,500,000 ($16.5M AAV). Heyward is 27, Dex is 30. So, they're essentially signed through the same age (+/-) because Heyward's option is a players option.

I'm interested to see who turns out the more value for their cost over their contract life.

I will miss Dex too, but wouldn't be surprised to see him regress. He was a perfect fit in Chicago, but he had so much help behind him.

Card fans are getting their panties in a bunch because Fowler still has a picture of the Cubs as his twitter header.

Also saw one say that Fowler has no respect for St Louis for picking McGwire's number.

LOL

Feel bad for Dexter. Can you imagine going from Maddon to Matheny and the differences in coaching philosophies?

Well I have no respect for McGwire either so I'm still on Team Dexter
