And if you arent panicked about it, you don't care and are content with mediocrity.
When 'mediocrity' at ISU means being ranked a bunch of the season and a tourney bid.
What a time to be alive.

I think a big thing is the shifting of expectations. When I look at this team and what we’ve done this season do I think “Big 12 regular season” champs? Nope.
When I look at our current record? Yep.
My initial expectation has only changed from overachieve and make the tourney (although I predicted we would miss pre-season) because going .500 overall and missing the tournament is pretty much impossible at this point.
I’m not going to change my wish list for the team or what I consider a good season (making the tourney) though before any season. Make the tournament, see what happens. Anything above that is gravy (high seed, conf champ, conf tourney champ).
Beat Yuck and bad guy Adams.
FIFY.The award for most appropriate typo goes to....
Below 75. 76-100 Away is Q2a.Current Quad 1, but just by beating them they might drop below 70 which makes it Quad 2.
I’ll clarify earlier comments. Would a loss at Tech be a bad loss? Not really when you consider it is Quad 1. Especially not without Grill and Jaz.
Would it be our worst loss of the year? Using similar logic, yes. Others are are top 45 on NET.
My point is simply that if you’re the type that is talking about a conference title or a 2-seed then this is the kind of game you really need to win. I don’t think this is an “easy” game. No such thing exists in the Big 12 and especially not on the road.
Just saying that I find it interesting to see people both optimistic about a conference title and a 2-3 seed while at the same time seeing people stressing this much about a game against last team in the conference.
As others have said, I agree this is largely about expectations. They’ve shifted significantly for the fan base as a whole, but they still very depending who you’re talking to.
There were a couple of posters who said that but more in the thread said rest Grill for this one if necessary because conference games are more important than random non-con games. If the rest of the team would have played up to their abilities they could have beat the Misery team without him.Had a thread about it being ok to lose to Missouri and see how that worked out. Let's not make this the same.
That's likely to cause a huge debate on this site. Caleb Grill has the biggest fan following I've seen an ISU men's basketball player have since Georges.I like Grill's defense, but I would call Gabe our best defender and also best perimeter defender
Well I'll be damned, pretty much completely agree with you.At times people sell this team short and lower realistic expectations based on what we THOUGHT we had versus what we actually have.
The reality is we probably have the best 5 in the conference, one of the best shooting guards, one of the best point guards, one of the best shooters (when healthy), and a really solid slasher with Holmes.
Our biggest issues are teamwide athleticism/quickness, depth, and having a consistent shot-creating player. Of those depth is probably the biggest issue especially when we aren't healthy. Right now we have 5 guys we can rely on, consistently, for positive contributions while Watson and Ward have sporadic moments (Jones even moreso). When playing a high intensity brand of basketball it's hard to have that, night in and night out, with 5 guys. If and when Grill and Kunc get healthy that becomes 7, which is much more doable.
As long as we keep bringing effort and stay relatively healthy, I see no reason why we won't contend. We've had two complete stinkers (Iowa and Mizzou) while UConn (at the time) was a much better team than we were. Having those game when the opponent has one of their best makes things look worse than they really were/are.
It won't be easy but I expect us to win tonight, be at or near the top of the conference, and end up with no worse than a 5 seed for the tournament (likely 3-4). The keys are health and reducing Jones' minutes as much as possible (Osun/King play the 5). That and a healthy Grill make us a very dangerous team.

Regardless, ISU's standing in the conference race has not changed.
Well, who doesn't like to Grill? I like to Georges also! That's likely to cause a huge debate on this site. Caleb Grill has the biggest fan following I've seen an ISU men's basketball player have since Georges.
If you go back not that far, there was lots of "he sucks" too. Grill really following the Matty Ice fan love trajectory...That's likely to cause a huge debate on this site. Caleb Grill has the biggest fan following I've seen an ISU men's basketball player have since Georges.
Because people are betting on Tech? Why is TTU favored by 1 now?
