Mizzou has a nice team, but getting drilled on the road there is a bad sign for a team needing multiple road wins against higher caliber teams to win a championship.

As we proved against Iowa, if a team starts hot from 3 and we get down, we can really struggle - especially if we don't take care of the ball. But if any team goes 14-30 from 3 against us, we'll lose. It hasn't happened in a conference game yet, but it probably will.

If we want to talk about conference titles and high seeds in March this is a game we have to win.

We’ve got @UT, @BU, @K State which are as tough as they get and could very well be 3 losses. @WVU is also a tough game. That means we’ve got to be clean at home (KU, TCU not gimmes and I am not sure that OU or WVU is either if we’re not full strength).

We just don’t have the margin of error to lose a game like this.
I find it hilarious that just 4 weeks ago we had "must win" games to make the tourney, now we have "must win" games to win the conference championship.

How does the Mizzourah game gave any impact on the conference title? If we were going to lay an egg this season, Iowa and Missouri are the two games that I'm just fine doing so. Can't lay an egg tonight.
I think simply because of the effort that was given. I realize Grill was out, but it was such a lull game I figured it was at least going to be closer than that. Poor passes that looked lazy and unthoughtful and the energy in that game seemed like they played the night before. I didn't expect them to win, but holy bad effort. It didn't help that Mizzou played in their face defense and made about everything from behind the arc. I didn't expect a W, but I thought it would be a 5-8 point loss instead of a 17 point loss.

And I'd take a bad loss due to effort over a bad loss due to talent. Effort is fixable. We saw that in Decmeber against Iowa. Once we got into conference play, the effort came back and things clicked. I expect to see the same tonight. If we see the same effort in conference games, then I'll worry. But I'm not going to get worked up about a meaningless game.

Things have changed quickly. I am not sure there will ever be a level of success that will cause ISU fans to have consistently high expectations.

It’s ridiculous to have a “must win” early in the season if we’re talking about NCAA bid. But at some point they become a real thing in conference if you’re trying for a championship. If not “must win” you’re at least talking about having to steal games elsewhere.

There is a reason TTU is winless in the conference. A loss tonight will cause a meltdown in here.

I am glad that KU's 3 loss streak was lined up for UK and not us. They have never lost more than 3 in a row under Self. I don't know why, but I'm getting this bad feeling about Saturday. I think they'll win tonight, but we've seen this too many times where KU barely beats us 1 game and then comes back and gets the help of the refs on our own dang floor. I hope having Otz as coach will have them prepped differently. But oddly enough, I have a feeling that our guys will steal one on the road that they likely shouldn't win. Whether thats @texas, @Baylor or @KSU.

I'd feel better about a win in Austin versus how I feel about a win in Lubbock tonight
Other than the obvious question mark with Grill why do you say that? We just crushed Tech by like 30 and they’re not full strength.

Others here expressing the same. What am I missing?

My question is when the the expectation go from making the tourney to winning the conference? And can we at least acknowledge the lightning fast speed of that transition?

Every loss causes a meltdown (when we're good), we should be used to it by now.

1) it's always tough as hell to play in Lubbock
2) it's back-to-back Sat/Mon road games, which are always tough
3) they want payback for the boot-stomping in Ames
4) they're desperate for a W

I'm gathering that the caution surrounding this game is that it's on the road. Have not fared well in true road games this year.

We purposefully sat arguably our most important player. Not sure why people just pretend like that didn’t happen.
It's more so denial. People don't want to admit Caleb is that important to the team. I think he is, but I think we would also struggle if for example it were Holmes or Gabe that were out instead of Caleb. Each guard that sees regular rotation minutes is pretty vital to this teams success. It was evident that when Jeremiah Williams went out, our guard depth was going to be pretty thin, and each one was going to have to really step it up. Caleb, I think, has been the most improved player from last year, he has really answered the call, but each one of Gabe, Jaren, Caleb, and even Tamin are pretty important to the functionality and success of this team.

A close win would too.

Nobody should shoot the ball, nobody should play, more players should play others' positions and their own, sometimes at the same time, and if ISU wins the conference it had better be by 2 games minimum or else they won't look like a champ and why even watch?
