O.T. Direct TV question

We had a HD receiver go bad on one of our tv's last week and after doing some on-phone trouble shooting with a DirTV rep they ended up deciding to send us a new HD receiver. My question / concern ? We had the '' system '' initially set up thru Technology by Design ( out of Urbandale ) last year with surround sound, infrared & a high tech all-in-one remote. Anyway, I called ' Technology ' and they suggest having one of their installers come out ( at $85/hr ) as there experience is people / or DirTV end up screwing up things and we'll be calling them and looking at a bigger job if we / or DirTV try to do the job.

Anyone with any experience or reccomendations ?

You should just have Direct Tv one of their installers come out. I know when my dad's reciever went out, he called Direct TV and they sent someone out and i'm pretty sure it didn't cost a thing.

is it the same model unit? if not, you could be looking at setting stuff up again (needing help). If it is the same unit, you should be able to help the tech and get what you need.

My DVR is shot, and someone's coming out tomorrow at no charge. This is because I have what they call the "Loyalty Warranty". If you've been with Directv for awhile, it may not cost you to have someone come out.

Unless you had an old-school HD receiver, you should be able to just unplug everything from the old one, plug it into the new one, and use the same remote you were using with no issues.

Ridiculous to pay anyone to hook that stuff up. Pretty easy to do. Unless they offer it free, I'd do it myself.

My receiver went out last month. I called support and they sent out a new one. It was easy to install and set up. You need to get them the new card id and they'll link you up quickly.

If it's just swapping out a receiver, one for one, there shouldn't be any issues.

Just make sure the cables all plug back in together. These days, it's amazingly simple to hook everything up.
