Nick seems to have a /run mid-range-CP3-elbow-jumper.exe program in him.

I'd love to see TH get that same move. He looked a little off and missed on a runner in the paint last night, but he has the ability to get to that shot fairly regularly IMO.

That's me super nit-picking on his game, BTW

You must not remember him lighting us from 3
Oh I remember. I also remember those being wide open looks. He’s shooting 24% from 3 this year. Just make him take tough shots and stay home on their guards and I think we’ll be okay. Don’t double him in the post but don’t let him take wide open 3’s like last year.

Sounds like Lawson... and then he canned two threes against us that pretty much were the game difference in score.

It's a bit unfair to say MJ is in a scoring slump. He normally gets his points in the flow of the game (putbacks, back-door cuts, maybe an occasional 3 and that sweet-looking mid-range shot of his). With the other options we have, he isn't expected to be a primary scorer. If our guards are flying around, passing and scoring like they are capable of, I'm ok with MJ scoring less. More importantly, he seems ok with it too.

Others have mentioned the intangibles he does to justify his being on the court. I'll add two underrated things of my own:

- he seems to be able to find a way to get a bucket when it's not falling for anyone else
- he does a solid job screening off his player and providing an open lane to the basket for someone else

--was busting his *** the whole time he's out there one of the already mentioned intangibles?

Hilton would have gone bonkers if he hit that three last night after that bogus foul call...almost happened.

Would be fun if he's hitting on Saturday and stretches Texas out more.

I hope ISU is able to get the foul calls Kansas got during the stretch run in Austin when they started to come back on the Horns. I'm pretty sure they went 5 or 6 possessions in a row where they drove and got the foul call whether they made the shot or not. I thought for sure at that point that the zebras were going to take over the game but that Texas team didn't get rattled. I was impressed with their composure.

THT vs Ostekowski will be the key matchup. Ostekowsi killed us in the pick and pop last year, it'll be interesting if they roll him to the paint this year with a wing guarding him rather than Lard.

After last year, I bet he'll come into Hilton with all kinds of confidence, too. Its more than Roach, as far as threes. Some games they've been really good from 'three', others they haven't. I hope we get the 'haven't' version. The freshmen center is a stud. Not sure how our bigs will stay out of foul trouble if we don't send help, thus the three point shooting might be huge. His shot blocking/changing shots ability is going to give us fits. Maybe we can get him in foul trouble somehow.
Side note: does Naz's brother come to Hilton and play the game of his life? Not that I mind as long as we win!

I too hope the game plan isn't to double Osetkowsky and leave their average shooters with WIDE OPEN 3 chances.

Te$as has made 9, 12, and 10 threes the last three games

I've been impressed with them lately. A close miss on a last second three ball or they win that game 'at' the Phog. Definitely better than the team that showed up earlier in the season and what the heck was going on in that Georgia game last week?

Texas is solid but nothing special. THT is going to destroy whatever big they try to put on him. I think we run them out of the gym.
He will if he's smart about it. He's got to be a little better about passing on the drive if a layup is not there. If Hayes comes over to swat him, then he's gotta shovel it off to the other big.

I think sometimes THT has his mind made up what he's doing when he starts his drive, and it leads to some forced shots.

Can't remember which thread but some were speculating Shayok on Ostekowski. Gotta be THT imo. Ostekowski is really good at throwing his weight around and Shayok would be giving up over 50 lbs to him. Hopefully THT can get a few steals on post entries and stay out of foul trouble.

Hayes is a freak. His weakness is he's foul prone. Would be big to draw a couple quick ones on him. He's raw and a little timid out there so you don't want to give him confidence early in games.

He needs to take it to Hayes, get him moving laterally and then get into his body - force the zebras to make a call.

Plus, THT would then need to defend a perimeter player if Shayok was on Ostekowski.

If we’re changing things up, Imo put MJ on Ostekowski. Jacobson is much better defending screen action and the perimeter than Young/Lard last season, and would maybe reduce bringing the double on Ostekowski. I don’t think Hays one-on-one offense changes much whether defended by THT or MJ.

If defended by Hays, I’m curious as to whether Jacobson’s offense can help mitigate Hays defense. In the first matchup KU was able to exploit Texas with a guard at the four, but in the game last week UT’s frontline won the matchup.

We’ve got a lot of fouls to give and several guys to get Ostekowski and Hays in foul trouble. That’s assuming we get a decent officiating crew.

That is exactly what they did against KU. Garrett was guarding him and Ostekowski would just post up and back him down.

You can get Hayes to foul based on the times I have seen him. While he is a good shot blocker he isn't strong and post players can back him down and you just have to take it into his body. And if he comes over to help on a drive players just need to be looking to dish to the open man.

Yeah, it looks like Tyrese is figuring out that he can penetrate pretty easily - he's just still learning how to either finish or kick it out. He'll get there, though. He's a bright guy.

I'm still curious to see what we would look like with Lard and Jacobson on the floor at the same time; Texas offers that opportunity with their size but doubt we'll see it.
