Have any of you ever cancelled your cable for six months or so? I thought you could do that if you said that you had a winter/summer house..were going on an extended vacation ect. I called them to cancel it for the summer and they flipped out. Any ideas?

Just cancel it and not worry about a business flipping out?

Not really sure what the issue is here. What does "flipped out" mean in this context anyway

Flipped out and said you can't cancel or just did their best to keep you signed up?

Cable companies will do anything to keep you signed up. Unless they have a specific rule that you can't cancel or you are locked in by a contract.

Just Mediacom being Mediacom. They flipped out when I canceled them for good and had to go through several rounds of "Yes I am sure I want to cancel." I have never canceled for just a season but I am not surprised they flipped out.

flipped out as in they said if I cancel they will charge 280$ ect ect......I thought it was common practice that you could cancel your cable for a certain period of time and start it back up again. I know dozens of people that do this when heading to TX or FL for the summer. Not sure if they have Mediacom however.

Cancel for good. F that company. I haven't paid for cable for years and I don't miss it.

What about football and bball games?

Cable is cheaper than going to bars for those games, for me at least. I can drink $20 of beer during a game easily :twitcy:

I'd try again, and see if you have better luck with another rep. Knowing a few people who work there - ummmm, hmmm.

I have always cancelled in April and picked it back up in December. It seems like it was about $15 to cancel and $15 to hook back up but I could be wrong. I tried to do this last night and the line was too busy so I am going to try again tonight.

Best part of cancelling is you get the sports pack for free for 3 months. When I sign up I ask for it for free for 4 months and they oblige, so I get the sports pack for the 4 months of the year that I have cable.

Just cancel your Mediacom and have no regrets. Mediacom has such horrible customer service not to mention their prices and quality and reliability of service sucks too, best decision I ever made was ditching them. I even gave them a chance to retain my business by telling them I was looking at making a switch to satellite and if they could offer me some of the great deals they were giving new customers I would reconsider but they wouldn't budge and gave me the BS line that they can't offer any promotional deals to existing customers. Funny how when I called to cancel they did exactly that though! I had planned to keep their cable internet but was told that since I no longer had a TV package the price would go up so I did the same thing, told them if they couldn't offer me a deal I would be calling back soon to cancel that too after I setup DSL and once again they wouldn't offer me anything until the last call I made to actual cancel service.

Even your dish companies will offer you something if you've been a customer long enough and tell them you are considering switching to their competitor. You aren't in any kind of contract with your cable provider so cancel and reconnect at will as you have all the leverage on your side. If they want to keep your business bad enough they'll do what they can to satisfy you else you just cancel and move on.
