If KJ is ever let go, I don't want somebody that keeps us where we are. If that is the case, why make a change. I think this is about the best staff KJ has had with Angel added.

I also support KJ and staff, and think we now have everything we need to win here at Iowa State. I hope we can make a run at NCAA's this year and I think we are set to make one better than we have been since Varner and Zabriskie were seniors.

With that said, I would be also supportive of making a change at Head Coach. I don't think Kj will get us to the top, and he's now had plenty of time to establish himself. I don't think he is a bad coach and we could certainly do worse, but I think there are lots of coaches out there that could equal his level of success with the support and resources that ISU wrestling has. There are a few people out there, I think, that could help us return into the top tier again. I'd be excited about the idea of one of the Paulson twins taking over, I think they are the biggest asset we have as a program right now.

Regardless, I hope to be at all of the home meets this year and will continue to support whoever we have as head coach. The wrestling program has always been and still is a bright spot for this university.

Spot on, think you summed up most cyclone wresting fans thoughts well

I think I'm afraid of starting completely over. That's why it's a very weary subject for me. I do like how he improved us as a team tho. KJ appears to be one of those coaches that needs time to build his program. Brands and Cael can get the blue children kids because of who they are. I'm completely ok with keeping KJ cause I'm just not sure there is anyone we can that would change us much more than where we have gotten to at this point.

He considers anybody who hasn't actively been calling for Jackson's head since 2010 to be the "big pro-KJ crowd" and anybody who doesn't think that any coach other than Jackson could just waltz in and turn us into a top 3 team next season to think that we're the sisters of the poor.

Cytopia & NEICyfan may or may not be alts of the same guy, but they are basically the same poster just beating the Queso drum. I've got them both on ignore so don't reply to them very often since I only see their posts if they are quoted but they aren't at all interested in anything but bashing the wrestlers and bashing the coaches.

Well the opposite could be said about you. I am tired of reading all about how everything is smelling like roses with the program through your eyes. They are not. There are many things wrong with this program and they aren't going to be fixed by Kevin Jackson. They may not ever get fixed because Pollard couldnt care less about wrestling. I was a big KJ supporter until he pulled Meeks' shirt just to save his job. When that happened I knew he was in it for himself and not for the good of Iowa State wrestling.

The running theme here for the "pro KJ crowd" is that you all want to keep him around because you are afraid that the person who replaces him won't do any better.

That's the biggest load of crap and a complete loser mentality. The status quo crap is ********. You do not win national titles by being mediocre, which is what we are and always will be if there isn't a change made.

I knew exactly what he was talking about. I am the farthest thing from a grammer cop, in fact they annoy the heck out of me as this is a message board and who cares. BUT the fact they both incorrectly spelled that word so many times in their exchange I about made the same comment. I think your usage of "you're" was the first time in this thread it was correctly spelled.

Have any problems with spelling cops???

I am not trying to pick a fight here just looking for a reasonable answer. Who would you suggest that can take Iowa State wrestling to the National contenders/champions we all want? Would it be Robinson, Smith, Brands, Zalesky, or Sanderson? Everyone acts like there is a plethora of great coaches to pick from and there isn't. Since 1989, 25 years, only 4 universities have won NCAA wrestling championships. I am all for getting back to 1987 but I truly wonder who can do it. You about have to take a risk on a current assistant. This is not loser mentality,it is fact.

Most of the potential future great coaches will be available at 2016 Olympics, maybe

Hall definitely has benefitted from Escobedo. I hope we are able to hang on to him for awhile! Hope that he can also turn Boston into a stud. Weird that our strength may be in our lower weights next year.

CyAGR, that is the exact point I was getting at when I made my initial post in this thread. As mentioned by you in this thread, wrestling isn't like the other sports that have a plethora of great coaches to pick from. Getting a coach of that caliber right now doesn't seem probable. At this point with the program, not sure a coaching change is the best thing to do. From an AD standpoint, what u want to see from a coach is improvement and KJ is doing that. Granted that improvement may not of been as fast as we wanted to but that always happens when you have a passionate fan base.

Why not take a risk? It may not work out but at least we tried. It may turn out worse than what we have now, but at least we tried. You keep trying until you find the guy that fits the program and takes you to where you want to be. I'm not happy with where we are at and I doubt many are. The cupboard looks to be getting more bare after this season. I don't know who they should hire. But I do know that it is a loser mentality to stay with what you've got because you are afraid of taking risks. The only reason to renew KJ's contract is because you think he can take us to the top. I don't think he can even get us close.

I think Pollard is a few inches taller than Cael so it makes sense..

This is a very good team.

Also PSU had a lot of money to throw at Cael. I have heard that Cael approached PSU, but look at the recruiting area and money available. He also never beat Iowa, but it was closer. Supposedly him and Pollard never saw eye to eye.

Cael had us as a top 5 team, but he left for greener pastures. Not sure who you were going to get to replace him and keep us there.
Cody at Oklahoma???, Oklahoma is not good this year and their good recruit Oliver Pierce left for ASU.

Sammie Hensen???- Time will tell, but many programs have passed on him. We will see how he does at West Virginia

Mark Perry or Pritzlaff - who knows?

We have a great staff, but Ohio State, Minnesota, ASU (now with Zeke Jones), Ok State, PSU are grabbing most top recruits.

Then there are 15 other teams dividing up most those left and Iowa State is one of them

Just because some people don't want KJ's head does not mean they are necessarily "pro KJ" either. There is always some middle ground. He is the current head coach and he HAS improved over his time even if it's taken longer than people wanted. So some people would rather support what we currently have going instead of just tearing people down constantly.

It sounds easy enough to just take a risk and continue to hire new people until you find the right person, but with the turnover that could hurt the program so much more because of constant instability.

THANK YOU!! I was just going to post we are not going to pull away anyany of the current big name wrestling coaches that could get us to the next level at this time. However the next round of greats or should say potential great coaches are the ones that are competing for the 2016. Those are the current wrestlers many of the younger guys have seen wrestling and would love to wrestle for.

Going to pull away cael-nope. brands-nope. robby-nope. smith-nope there are the coaches that have gotten their teams to national titles in my lifetime.
