That's reassuring to know you're telling us that no one from Cyclone Fanatic should be head coach next year.

Stormin probably has a lengthy response about why a poster from CF will work out, and how we will be even better off with that poster than Hoiberg. And it'll be Jamby.

It's looking more and more like T.J. is going to be the man. Which I would be OK with from the list of the other underwhelming mid-major coaches. Fred hand picked his successor.

We know that Otz has enthusiasm and zeal for the most important part of college basketball - recruiting. We have no idea if Hornacek would.

To me there is some question if that enthusiasm and zeal is still there--and leads to the same results--when you're a head coach and have to deal with the responsibilities that come along with that. Managing your staff and players, PR / donor appearances, commercials, coach's call-in shows, etc.

As I stated previously I'm not exactly opposed to Otz... certainly can't blame him for wanting to take a step up, and trust Jamie's judgement based on available options when the time comes. But not everyone who is a really good role player automatically becomes a really good leader, regardless of field/career. Promotion to the level of incompetence.

Based on what I've seen/heard, I'm not exactly convinced recruiting was Hoiberg's favorite part of the job. However, it seems he did a good job of surrounding himself with the right people and managing them effectively enough to put together competitive teams.

What are "available options" anyway? Jamie can pick up the phone and call whomever he wants. The worst anyone can say is no thanks. I shudder to think we have a AD who doesn't have the will or desire to "sell" Iowa State to a coach who is waiting to be convinced. Heaven help us if JP just has a list of coaches who will gratefully say "yes" if offered. Like Otz...
And on the contrary, I've heard it from other assistants that Fred really enjoyed recruiting, and the relationships they brought.

Do we know that is what she met when she posted? She could have known that if he was coming back it was setting up for Fred leaving... Maybe it was moreso she didn't want Fred to leave than for Otz to be back.

I always assumed it was that TJ returning implied Fred might leave. I don't think said poster would post a simple grievance like that. Besides, saying we as fans wouldn't want him back only makes sense in that context.

One thing about Otz is that it seems like he embraces everything involved in college basketball. The recruiting, the functions, etc. Fred never really seemed to like all of that.

Also I have never heard Fred liked recruiting but TM is right about 20% of the time so I'm probably wrong.

A bunch of guys who have turned down more money at more prestigious jobs mostly. And an NBA coach who is probably the most likely.
