Hate to break it to you guys... if we had white helmets, we'd still have the worst uniforms in the conference. We need new (ORIGINAL) uniforms. Not just a lame copy of USC or the Kansas City Chiefs.

Also, I can't wait to see how badly Adidas botches the 5 uniforms that go with those helmets. Hope they go with a giant K on the front of them like Wisconsin & Nebraskas ugly *** jerseys last year.

Because that is such an easy thing to identify and pinpoint...

If there is no evidence of it helping recruiting, why should ISU sink $$$ into alternates? Given where ISU's AD budget is, don't you think the money would be better spent on keeping coach's salaries competitive with those of our conference mates?

Oregon built an entire program out if it.

Again, is there any solid evidence that Oregon won recruits because of their uniforms?

I agree about the jack trice uniforms. i bet they are waiting to unload those on us and we will go crazy eating it up. jack trice needs to be the first throwback/alternate uniforms we get. great story great uniform and we will buy the **** outta them at the bookstore. it is really disheartening to see KU get these , though, while we make excuses.

Couldn't disagree more. Recruits. Love. Alternates.

And nobody could use more help in recruiting than ISU. In a landscape where almost every permanent factor goes against ISU, you have to adapt in the parts of recruiting that you can control.

Because those schools don't have to. They wear boring uniforms from the 60s and they are praised for being classic because they are the best schools in the nation. They have almost every advantage you could get in recruiting. They don't need any more, and they are still doing it at a decent clip.

There are plenty of other schools who don't change their uniforms constantly and still do pretty well. Alternates are nice, but ISU doesn't need to completely overhaul their wardrobe for the third time in a decade.

You have got to be ******* ******** me. I think we should just agree to disagree if you require evidence that Oregon has done that.

It is impossible to prove things that you are asking.

You can't even correlate the win loss record of teams for an entire year with the next year's recruiting class.

It is one of many factors that kids weigh. Hell, we already know that the number a kid gets at college can affect his choice. I saw someone here say a kid chose his college because it had a Chik fil a on campus.

Recruits want to look cool playing football and they will view a school with cool uniforms in a more positive light than one with plain old boring ones, or at least with no options. Especially when that school has literally no football tradition or tradition with their uniforms.

I have seen multiple players on our team tweet about not having alternates or about having basic uniforms. It is real whether you acknowledge it or not. And it wouldn't cost us very much, if anything to do.

Not talking about overhauling them. Just having alternates to use once or twice a year. Keep our base uniforms. I actually like them.

And why would we ever leave something on the table that would improve our ability to recruit? Just because teams can succeed without doing it, doesn't mean that they wouldn't do even better if they did it.

I don't want to change the uniforms. I think we should have options and opportunities to switch it up. I think Pollard is desperate to build a uniform identity and I think Paul Rhoads like to be a plain, workmanlike team. No frills. That comes at the expense of recruiting IMO.

I think it was a couple years ago a guy came out and said one of the main reasons he went to oregon was because of uniforms.

Couldn't find the one I was thinking of but here are some other articles where coaches and players make it sound like uniforms do make a difference at Oregon.

College football programs use bold uniforms to lure recruits - The Bonus - SI.com

"I've always said if Oregon would have offered me (a scholarship), it would have been a tough thing to turn them down just for the uniforms," ASU defensive back Omar Bolden says. "And I hate cold weather." He proves the point that while some find Oregon's style excessive and borderline hideous, the players love the duds.

Bolden predicts 80 percent of the Ducks play there because they were drawn by the uniforms. "I think there is a proven correlation in interest in recruiting and visual images kids see on TV that they think is cool," Bellotti says. "Our kids said we only get to play one game a week and it is nice to have options on how we dress. Interchangeable jerseys, different colors, adding black, strong colors, that all resonates with youth."

Nike key to Oregon's national surge - Oregon Ducks Blog - ESPN

"Nike is the elite in sports apparel and having the ability to work with them and give feedback, while also helping with uniform design is a big deal to a teenage kid,â€￾ Colvin said. “Michigan and USC both had a lot to offer and had more tradition, but Oregon was the up-and-comer with something no one else had. I knew I couldn't go wrong with choosing to commit to Oregon.â€￾

I'm kinda upset that Rhoads is turning into Ferentz when it comes to unis. We need to spice things up. Even Iowa spiced a few things up last year with the helmets. COME ON RHOADS! And don't tell me Iowa State can't afford it. If Rhoads really wanted it, he can get it.

"Trying to build an identity"

Perhaps we could do that by winning.

Just look at Oregon. They change uniforms every game, and they are one of the most identifiable programs in the country.

Hard to build an identity when your uniform looks like those of a more successful program. Changing ISU's wardrobe here and there for special games couldn't possibly hurt ISU.

And on a some what related note, I preferred the cardinal bottoms for away games than the white pants.

Kansas' uniforms in our game last season looked pretty sharp in person.

I hope KU breaks out some alternates against us. Our record against alternates has to be pretty good with OSU, TCU, KU, Iowa all taking a loss in recent memory.
