Having some sort of alternate jersey is a good thing for Iowa State. It will not hurt our budget or ability to intrigue coaches that we desire. The alternate jersey would increase publicity, merchandise sales, and maybe give Iowa State a national story or two (ESPN doing an article or something).

It is honestly a no risk decision. Now if JP and the football staff decide they don't want to for whatever reason, then fine. But arguing about budget, etc is pointless.

If, as you contend, alternate uniforms are a no-risk decision that can only help ISU and won't hurt ISU's budget or other goals, why hasn't the AD made the decision to do it? It would make no sense not to have them if there is truly only benefit and truly no risk or downside. Either the AD and FB staff are just plain stupid to not take advantage of the benefits that alternate uniforms offer, or your presuppositions regarding alternate uniforms at ISU are wrong in some way.

Who knows...maybe ADJP will unveil alternates tomorrow and you will proven correct. ADJP is very good at keeping things quiet.

I seem to recall some schools selling jerseys they didn't even wear on the field. Notre Dame used to sell a gold one, Ohio State had a silver one, I've seen Maize Michigan ones, and UGA had black ones a few before the infamous Blackout game vs Auburn a few years ago.

As long as we dont look like we got our jerseys at K-Mart, then whatever the Athletic Dept/team wants to do is fine by me as long as it's respectable. Face it: We will build our brand (whatever it may be) through on field/on court success. How we look or don't look doing it is small potatoes.

Someone should legitimately email Pollard. Regardless of if I am right or wrong I would like to know his reasoning, the cost, how much the school pays opposed to Nike, how much money they would make off merchandising, ect.

It would be a good call in question for the applebees weekly call in show.

Just a quick note from the KU perspective:

Helmets are just a sneak peak, they are supposedly doing a new uniform designs as well (the jersey shown in pics and vids are ones from previous years).

Our Adidas contract outfits the entire athletic department so there is no extra costs associated (just like with the terrible camo basketball unis from this past year).

The word is the staff thinks it will help with recruiting (players are pumped about them and, while we think we are recruiting well we need all the help we can get).

The light blue is a throwback to the Gale Sayers era.

The fighting 1941 Jayhawk is a fan favorite and has been done in response to that.

I hate the black.

KU has a history of frequent uniform changes (including colors), I wish we had a classic look but we don't so might as well jump on the bandwagon.

I really like ISU unis but the white helmet posted above is awesome.

If these don't hurt, kids between 13-18 need to all be rounded up and shot. We'll start over.

I'm still trying to imagine the meeting in which a bunch of university administrators thought this was a good idea.

So, what about the post that said he knew personally that the players have already been fitted for throwback uniforms? Doesn't this suggest that it is just a matter of time?

Great post. Clears some stuff up and I completely agree with all of it.
