I completely agree. Losing a kid to Texas so he can go to Austin and ride the bench for the remainder of his college career rather then coming to Ames and playing for the next 2 years is inexcusable and embarrassing on every level.

Just answer me this... you are 21 year old "cyclonestate78" and you had to the choice to spend 2 years of your life in Austin, Texas or Ames, Iowa where would you go?

Losing a recruit to Texas, understandable in isolation. Losing 3 recruits over the course of a week, that just so happened to coincide with us getting absolutely worked by one of the worst teams in college football? That's something more than a coincidence. How about this-- find me another school who has lost 3 recruits in the same week? Maybe, what, Michigan?

USC last year... All on the same day.

I am not saying its a good thing to have decommitts... far from it. But this program gives you plenty of reasons to lose your minds about (117 years of being awful for starters) and people choose to lose their minds on commitments from flighty JUCOs?

need to get rid of Wally right now stop the bleeding

Wally is not the problem! How about get rid of the 35 players on our roster that have no business playing Division 1 football.

We are in the position because we gave scholarships to players who i'm sure are good guys, just not high level football players.

Not similar at all.

There are definite similarities.

Local coach, not an attractive job at the time, .500 record at best, people making excuses left and right for failures, never turned the corner, talent never developed, justifying terrible play by blaming the school for not being possibly able to attract talent, big buyout, ect

Mostly the feeling that isu is doomed to never be any good and we shouldn't try to do better. McDermott was still getting support from people who thought that nobody worthwhile would coach at isu. Our last coach before McD was Wayne Morgan. No point in changing coaches if we can't do better!

Well maybe it's worth a shot to try and worst case scenario we are right where we are right now, rock bottom. Take a chance on a brilliant minded coach who can not only motivate kids but also recruit them.

This exactly. We have nothing to lose at this point and when you have nothing to lose then you bet it all!

"You're a big kid, ever play football?" Rhoads at McDonald's next spring in Ames at this rate

Hey, worth a shot! :)

Half serious. Gotta find hungry folks who want to give their all. If you can't get the high end talent, find guys that make up a lot of that gap through technique, hard work, and brains. And I'd say that regardless of our coach.

Jordy Nelson was a walk on defensive back at KSU. Let that sink in.

Talent wouldn't come to Ames? How many nba guys played for Greg?

*provided you give them them the best player in the nation and he can get them on his team because it's his kid and you play an easy schedule*

Even if that were true, not every single thing has to be parallel for there to be similarities.

I think it has more to do with them actually watching the games and seeing how bad things are with their eyes. They might want to go somewhere where they can win more than 1-2 games.

WHY would you commit to a coaching staff that people like yourself are saying should be fired and may be gone by the time you get there? You don't know who your coach would be and whether you want to play for them.

I don't think people were expecting top 100 or energy top 150 recruits while Greg was here. We brought in an enormous amount of marginal talent even conceding that he got some top end guys like Brackins, Taylor, and Wes Johnson.

I'm pretty sure recruits are smart enough to figure out on their own that Rhoads may not be here much longer, even without the help of message board fans calling for him to be fired. The results speak for themselves.
