It's a little different, though. With "hok," it's an accurate representation of how an entire segment of their fanbase talks. They simply do not pronounce the "w" in Hawk/Hawkeye. Not all of them, mind you, but enough that it's noticeable. So, pointing it out is more like turning a mirror on them, and showing them who they (at least some of them) are.

There's a little more going on there than just "Hawk sounds like Block. Let's call them Blockeyes" which is basically all the "CyClown" thing is.

That said, neither is exactly the pinnacle of humor.

I have to ask - how does one pronounce the "w" in Hawk?

he came to our floor in Larch often to play pool. i will never forget, ***his hands were too big to reach into the pockets to get the balls out.**** and his arms were very long for a guy his height. he was always very nice and respectful. really good dude from the little bit i knew him.

I'm sorry kinda LOL'd

But in all seriousness. VERY sad, the guy once paid for my haircut at the barbershop when I was $5 short! Freak athlete! Has anyone heard what caused his passing?

I had a random Agronomy class with him (which I thought was weird). Can't remember what his size was listed at on the depth chart, but in-person couldn't be anything more than 5-10 220#. What he did at DE in the Big 12, at that size, was simply amazing. Haven't had a D-lineman with his kind of speed since he played. RIP.

Interesting you posting with that username in this thread. How appropriate.

I'm confused by this? Like, he played for us too long ago? I mean, we're mourning the loss of a former Cyclone. I don't understand at all what you were trying to get at here.

This story needs to be told in the paper tomorrow to counteract the other petty cash story that will undoubtedly be told.

I feel like many people on this site pride themselves on being an *******, bizarre, or completely non-sequitur at all times.

Those of you complaining about those hawkeye threads are giving the trolls exactly what they want.

RIP Berryman.

My wife was his RA for a semester in the dorms. He was confident in himself, but never disrespectful. Fun guy to talk to.

It's when his temper picked up that things were trouble.

I always wondered if he let himself get into trouble by taking dares from "friends" or by responding to taunts. Never felt like I really heard the whole story of what took place on the street that one night. His crime always seemed more like bullying to me than theft (though I recognize it fit the legal definition) and never quite mind sense from what else I know about him.

Why is a thread about a former players death more about Hawks vs Clones and their posts on message boards?

Even though ISU lost I think Berryman was defensive mvp of the game. Pretty rare for a losing team to have an mvp.

Last I heard of Jason was about 5 years ago when he was playing for the Barnstormers. They were practicing in Vets and after practice he wandered over to Wells Fargo where Slipknot was rehearsing for an upcoming tour. He got caught stealing something from one of the band members and his Barnstormers career was over.

Yea this is true. I was working for the Wells Fargo Arena Event Management staff when that happened. Slipknot was doing the sound testing for their new album release tour in Europe. They had wells locked up for about a week so we had to move the Barnstormers stuff into the Vets arena. The players still had their locker rooms over in Wells Fargo so they would go back and forth during practices. From what I got from security was that one of the band members left one of the doors open to a room they had reserved and I guess when they came back the next day they were missing an Ipod Home and some speakers for it. Nothing major. But when They checked the tape they confirmed it was Berryman.

Pretty sad considering he wasn't a bad guy by any means, just made some bad decisions. If I remember right I think one of the Barnstormers guys told me that he pretty much had a contract locked up with the Bengals for 1 or 2 million if he could stay out of trouble with the Barnstormers. I can't confirm if it was true or not or any of the details other than that. Its a shame that such a good dude will be more remembered by most outside of ISU for a couple mistakes he made other than who he really was. Condolences to his friends and family.
