If it makes anyone feel better, LSU has a worse sound system and video boards than we do (unless they updated them this year). I was shocked that a big time SEC school with a couple recent nat'l championchips had such a crappy audio/video system. They do have a big band around the stadium like Hilton has inside, but the actual video boards (2 of them) and audio is horrendous.

I've heard anywhere from 60,000 to 62,500 to 65,000

It was my understanding that there were 10,000 seats being added. We currently have 45,000 seats, so that would make it 55,000 seats. If you sold north hillsides, it would be around 60-62K, but I'd think, if you wanted it to look good, you would sell cheap seats in that south endzone to replace the hillside capacity. Full stadium w/empty grass looks better than lots of people in grass and empty seats.

I don't think how it looks is a big concern when there is money involved. I know we get more TV coverage with the Big 12 television contracts than we did 3 or 4 years ago, but I don't think anyone who bothers to watch us play on VS at 11 in the morning is going to care that much about how the stands look because if that's the game they choose to watch they probably have a vested interest in the teams. Looks don't really matter until you actually get in a time slot and station that someone would stop and watch without looking for it, and for that to happen we need to move up about 80 spots in the quality of team.

Just the way I feel. As a spectator at the game I don't care where people are sitting, I do care about the size of the athletic dept budget.

Well, if we build it, I want it put to use. Instead of selling cheap seats for the north hills, sell tickets for the same price in the south endzone. If there is still a demand when that's full, sell the north hill.

i love the look of the new stadium every day when i drive past it. it would be even more impressive if we filled in the end zone with seating. the issue i have is that when i look at the games we have againt the baylors and the kent states of the world, we stuggle to fill the stadium. what is the point of adding 15,000 more seats when we can't fill the stadium every game? i think we need to focus on bringing the players to iowa state by improving the players facilites to become a top of the line football university. if we can prove that we are capable of winning every single game, and fill the stadium to do so, then that is the time to expand the seating. just a thought. go clones!

Could we build the south endzone and then lower ticket prices throughout the entire stadium? Eventually people will like the atmosphere created by building up the endzone and then prices can eventually be restored to where they began.

Nebraska is the only Big 12 school that I know of that DOES have more than one video screen.

Nebraska was the first college-only football stadium to install large video screens in 1994 when they installed two. They now have 5, one in each corner and a huge board at the top of the north endzone stadium. They are now adding two 307 foot ribbons across the balconies of both the east and west sides of Memorial Stadium.

IMO, the Bugeaters are not the Jones' we should be trying to keep up with. As far as I know, and it's been quite some time since I have been around the Big 12, they very well could be the only school with more than one. More research is necesary ...

This would be awesome. I think, WHEN this gets done, ticket prices need to be lowered across the board, as it will likely be mostly the result of a donation, and the increased revenue from higher sales volumes should offset the decrease in prices.

I doubt that though. Even with the increased revenue we'll probably still be in the bottom of big 12 budgets.

Jack Trice is a great place to watch a game, I think we all know that. Clearly individuals like Tim Griffin, who think JT is the #12 stadium in the conference are using flawed or atypical logic in their reasoning. Enclosing the south endzone is something we all want. I think most of us agree that our football program could use some validation on the national level, and a 1st class stadium is part of that process, but it's not a necessity. JP fully intends to complete this project, but it's going to take time. He released the photos to stir interest and boost donor confidence. I'm not sure how successful he's been in his fundraising efforts, but this addition isn't going to be done in the next several years.

Using the logic of "if you build it, they will come" is tricky and definitely a gamble. If the project is green-lighted and we complete the addition, it's 10,000-15,000 more butts that you have to put in the seats for 6-7 games a year, and for a program that has hit the bottom like we have recently, that's no easy thing to do. Furthermore, if we have to raise ticket prices to do this, then that can easily alienate your fanbase. Look at new Yankee Stadium. I don't remember ever seeing an open seat in Yankee Stadium in the 90s or this decade. Granted, the Yankees are playing for championships every year, but with the astronomical ticket prices for the new stadium, Yankees fans are turned off and aren't showing up at the ballpark. We as ISU fans would be crushed if something similar happened to us.

I want this addition just as much as everyone else does, but not at the cost of turning fans away, let alone, the ability to put butts in those seats week in and week out.

I understand your reasoning, but I do not see that happening. Discounted seats on the ends and the corners, but I do no think we will see it anytime soon. If anything donations will go up, and tickets as well as the economy improves.

Some of you guys are crazy. I'm glad you aren't in the athletic department!:jimlad:

So, we bowl in the south endzone, which increases actual seats to ~55K and you think we shouldn't try to sell tickets on the north hills because it would look better empty? And we have the smallest budget in the conference but we wouldn't want to maximize revenue? And decreasing ticket prices? Wow.

I'm pretty sure I saw a schematic drawing when they were taking some of this proposal to the regents that said capacity with a two-deck south endzone would be around 62K. That includes north hills too.

I also think a lot of people stay away from JTS because they don't want to sit on the hills. When the south bleachers were added permanently, that section was full within a couple years. I'd much rather sit in a seat myself. I don't think we'd have a problem selling 55,000+ tickets every game once this project is done. It will look incredible and who wouldn't want to come with the atmosphere already there plus an enclosed stadium...

physical seating now=45,000
avg. attendance '08=47,428

physical seating then=roughly 60,000?
so thinking would suggest avg. attendance then= roughly 62,000

crude way of thinking but would make sense especially with the high octane, fun offensive schemes we have now. Also, our team WILL be competitive most weeks which will make it a better game day experience. Having more people in the stadium would also make people 1.cheer louder 2.want to come back more 3.sell more tickets.

The fact that we have hills says we are not at the next level. Increasing the capacity of Jack Trice by 1, but meaning that every person has a seat is a huge improvement from now. Right now we are at 55,000 with 10,000 hill. Even 55,001 or 49,999 permanant seats (or 62,500, w/e) with no hillside seats is better than what we currently have.

says the guy with "hill" in his name

Hey... don't diss my town!! lol

I wouldnt say my town is at the next level though either. However, it is not a BCS School in the Big Twelve in what is known as the 'facilities arms race.'

Haverhill has an awesome bar if anyone within an hour or so from Marshalltown is looking for a good time.

What if the end zone was finished through mostly donated funds, at little external cost to the university? What reason would there be for NOT lowering prices, getting butts in the seats, and increasing sales of concessions and merchandise? When this thing gets done my guess is that's its gonna be mostly through a big donation.
