i tore up the rest of my season tickets... no joke

I hope you didn't have any season tickets to tear up, because you are a moron if you did. I'm sure I could have found some less fortunate person who would have enjoyed the tickets.

I hope the "meltdown" part is over here, because I wanted to post an observation from last night's game.

Brackins takes the ball inside, is bodied repeatedly by Tate so that the shot goes wildly awry, no foul.

Garrett goes to the hole, is bumped all the way there, his shot goes awry because he's bodied, no foul.

An Iowa guard drives to the hole, the Cyclone defender more or less wtches him go--foul, basket counts and a free throw.

I saw this again and again and again last night, and it was the second game in a row. Someone posted days before the game that Brackins would accumulate "phantom" fouls right off the bat, but the refs didn't have to go that far, Brackins was getting bumped and hacked and fouled all night, with no call.

I know that Eustachy would have been out there ripping bloody chunks off the refs. Is McDermott not doing the same? I know that he's a really big guy, you would think that would make an impression.

Fouls all one way--it's no wonder a young team gets dispirited.

Of course, I could be wrong. Perhaps that was all my imagination.

The refs let the teams play a physical game, that was it.

Well, get ready for a long season, 'cause we don't have the muscle or mentality to play physical ball.
As one lady pointed out last night while the game was on: "Well look at that. Iowa State has a few guys that look kinda like Harry Potter."

The refs allowed physical play, then went the other direction, back and forth.

There was a stretch were they called Iowa, both Tate and Cole, for a foul every time Brackins touched the ball.

If he's stronger, the physical play won't frustrate him so much.

Hamilton has only played basketball for three years and he already understands the game better than Brackins. It's too bad he doesn't have the natural ability Craig has. Brackins is completely clueless on the defensive end. He doesn't know how to defend a pick and roll and he's physically and mentally weak. When is he going to learn that turning to his right shoulder doesn't work? Especially when you are posting up on the wing!!! It should be more natural for a right hander to turn to his left. Instead, Craig insists on turning to his right and forcing a crap shot into the teeth of the defense. If he would turn to the right and shot-fake, I would bet my life his defender would go up. Everyone knows what Craig is going to do when he gets the ball in the post.

I couldn't believe how many times we failed to stay in front of the guy driving and we let them in for easy layups. Freakin pathetic. I don't know if its the coaching or the players or both, but this crap needs to change.

More Hamilton and Cam Lee please!!!

We need a strong inside player to complement Brackins and we need a guard who is better than Garrett. We have 1 of the 2 coming in next year. Hamilton and/or Pomlee might become the other with a year in the weight room. The rest of the players are in place. We just need to be patient.

I highly doubt a true freshman Colvin will be better than a junior garrett. Everybody thought Buckley would be playing a lot this season as well and Colvin is very skinny. We'll just have to agree to disagree at this point that the players are in place.

I do completely agree with you on the toughness issue though. This is going to sound bad but we need a few total a-holes on the inside that are willing to punish people. We just don't have anybody remotely fitting that description yet. Frankly I think Staiger might be the chippiest player we have.

We need a Kenny Pratt sans the trips to the clink.

Spot on. This team is lacking something and I think is it a true leader. BP does a good job leading at times, but he doesnt have the abality to take over when times get tough. He takes a lot of crap here but where would this team be without him. DG can be at times but he forces too much at times. DG and CB dont let the game come to them. Lucca is a shooting freak but doesnt get the touches he needs. There are some players on this team that play now that shouldnt be seeing the court, IMO.

atleast 3 that play quite a bit.

what i think this team needs is someone with rahshon clark size that scores like curtis stinson did. i think that with the addition of gilstrap, he will be the one who can come in right away and average around 10-12 pts a game. same goes for colvin

Yup, Cole picked up 3 fouls in a matter of about 30 seconds. Tate also picked up 2 in a matter of minutes.

I thought the reffing last night was a joke on both sides - and the double foul had EVERYBODY in Carver booing like crazy. It's hard to get every fan in a rivalry game on the same side, but Mr. Eddy Hightower did just that.

Fine, I'll accept that. The refs sucked.

Petey, Lucca, and Eik can't keep guys in front of them. We need them in on offense but need to figure out something on defense. I know Mac is a big M2M guy but we may NEED to go zone...

Didn't ISU play a lot of zone defense against UNI? We played man to man against Iowa for the first 30 minutes or so. By the time we switched to zone, it was too late. I think we'll see a lot more zone from now on. If not, I'll finally start to question GMac's coaching ability.

One of the guys who should not see the court is Eikmeier. His defense is laughable, he shoots a 3 about every time he touches it, he turns it over consistently, and his ball handling is easily the worst of all the guards that we have. Instead, he plays about 25 minutes a game. He will not face a Big 12 guard that he can guard.

AT should try another sport. Basketball is simply not his game.

I totally agree with other posters. Play Cam Lee, his defense is actually pretty good. Play the heck out of Boozer, he can't be worse than Eikemeier. Play Hamilton.... a lot. For that matter, Mann too. Keep playing Buckley too.

I would suggest watching a game. It's pretty obvious you've been watching something else. Eik has been one of the headier players out there, and one of our better passers/ball handlers.

AT plays some nice defense down in the post, and tends to show more hustle than anyone else out there.

Boozer=chucker. I love the excitement when he's in, but it's the same excitement, i.e. knowing something's about to happen, that someone would feel going off of a cliff. He passed the ball once at Iowa, and my wife and I were in shock. Haven't seen much of that when he's in. Lost on defense, chucks every shot he can find. Don't play Boozer yet.

Cam Lee-he would be good. Easy for their defense, though, because he's not a scorer yet.

If anyone could do it, it would be Hightower. Go, Ed, Go.

The officiating was uniformly horrible and inconsistent. On the plus side, we can't blame officials, because they made the same terrible calls/no-calls both ways.

BTW, I enjoyed the hostile looks we got in our nice bright ISU sweatshirts. And the classy dude that sharply asked if my wife would be cheering the whole game (I told him she would).

Brackins should start no matter how many bad shots he takes hes still one of our best players.

ya this is true. who would u want to start in his place. Vanderbeken? hes good but not in the post. Brackins is the only one who can score consistently down low for us

LOL, yeah. I have to admit, I was a little disappointed in the lack of at least conversation between Iowa and ISU fans. For the most part, it seemed everybody just went in, watched the game, cheered, and left.

Iowa fans cheered when things went right, and ISU fans did too. I only heard a few minor things, but they were nothing to write home about.

I guess your example sounds like one of the worst?

I am really starting to question his coaching ability. We looked unorganized from the start when trying to score, this will really need to improve or the Big XII season will be unbearable.

Why would you accept that? You said the calls all went one way and he said the refs were a joke on both sides -- that couldn't contradict what you said any more.

I still can't believe you're trying to pass that game off on the refs... you're literally the only Cyclone fan that I've seen try to.
