Dear basketball baby-jeebuz, it's been so, so long since we've seen ISU nationally ranked in B-ball.

Thanks,

Not to be Debbie Downer, but keep in mind this is just the Gary Parrish poll, not an official CBS poll.

I think Gary does a new poll every day of the week based on results.

Either way, great to see ISU getting national recognition.

(I know it is after three games but let me drink my Kool-Aid.) To be ranked equivalent to getting a #4 seed in the NCAA Tournament is just awesome.

Yea, I know it's not as important as the AP or Espn, but I'll take it. 15 seems a little high. I was guessing 23rd. BYU is going to be a tough one so hopefully we can maintain our ranking after playing them.

IIRC... ISU was ranked in the AP and/or Coaches in one of the final weeks of the 11-12 season. But a year and a half has been too long!

Edit: 11/12 Week 18 AP: #25

I hate being ranked early in the season. Put's a big target on your back and this is still a team that hasn't played a lot together.

after the last 12 years, I don't get that mentality. being relevant again is really really nice.

Fear of success.

I'd much rather be ranked early on. It means we are playing well and have respect, and its better in the long run for our seeding and tourney hopes. Much better than the last two years where we started slow and had to play catch up in conference play.

It's a lot easier to maintain votes vs. having to get them as we have seen in years past. If they can win at BYU and have some success leading into the Iowa game, ISU should be able to enter the Big 12 season ranked. Part of me thinks this team is too young to get ranked, needs more time to play together so they don't get to big of a head, but after watching yesterday I do not think that will be an issue. They expect to win and won't crumble when the chips are down. (at least at home)

I hate when people say they'd rather not be ranked. Do you think Kansas or Duke say that? This is where Fred is taking us. If you want to score some upsets and be known as the nice story every year, that's fine, don't like bein ranked. But if you want to chase Final Fours and championships, you'd better plan on being okay with being ranked in the future.
