is it time for us to leave the Big 12?

I wonder if we could just leave for football and still be in the conference for the other, non revenue generating sports.

I see you're a Cubs fan...so by your reasoning the Cubs should just give up on the big leagues and just focus on making the I-Cubs a winner?

If you have such little faith in our chances, perhaps you should find a team that shows more promise. There are plenty of bandwagons to jump on, just stay off of ours when CPR has success here.

Fact: the majority of people on my ignore list are there because they suggested we should leave the Big XII.

Let's see: We were a couple of field goals away from back to back Big 12 North Championships a few years ago.

Men's basketball: Back to back Big 12 titles in this decade
Women's basketball: Coming off an Elite 8 appearance
Volleyball: #11 in the nation
Soccer: Currently off to the best start in school history
Wrestling: One of the best teams in the nation

I think we are doing just fine in the Big 12.

Perfect Post. Let's take into consideration the big picture and not just football, specifically the past few seasons. In other sports we have and do compete. In football it wasn't that long ago we were playing for North Championships. Let's stop with the meltdowns and try to support a team that is obviously trying to get some sort of stability. For god's sake, our QB has had 3 coaches. The rest of the team, except for freshman, has had 2. Give it time. By time I mean 2 or 3 years. This isn't Michigan where we can turn it around in one year. This is ISU. It will be hard. It will be frustrating. We will lose games we should win. There will be inexplicable things that happen with the team. However, mark my words. Paul Rhoads is the right guy for this job. he will get this program on the right track. When he get's what he wants in place, we will compete. We will compete in every game and that team will play with pride and they will win football games. Trust.

WWOOWWW...you can't just pick and choose which conference you want to be in for each sport. That is ridiculous!! If every school chose their football conference and their "other sport" conference, it would just demean all athletic programs. Once again...wow.

Notre Dame can, however they are exempt from all rules.

jeeeeeze, melt down much?

ISU will figure this out, and we belong in the Big XII. Give the new staff a chance. Heck, it (a chance) is exactly what we (ISU) were begging for after cheese **** left for Auburn. Someone to take a risk and come coach ISU. I'd give them 2 YEARS not 2 games to prove themselves.

However, it was a destructive loss as the rebuilding effort looks to be several years away - 2012 and beyond...

the cards are stacked against us. Small recruiting base, a budget dwarfed by the other schools. Im not demeaning any coach or AD weve had, just being a realist.
Lets recruit out of Iowa. Most of Iowa's players are from here, and they seem to be successful. Also they are in the big 10. But just a thought....

I doubt most of them are from Iowa.

I just took a look at Iowa's depth chart. Out of the 26 players on the 2-deeps, 15 are from Iowa. I'm guessing UNI's depth chart, if they have one, has even more than that from Iowa. And if we're honest with ourselves, there's a lot of Iowa players on both those teams who we could use.

Problem is, if we left the conference, it would have to be completely, for ALL sports. We wouldn't be able to, say, leave the conference for football but remain in the Big12 for basketball (men's and women's). We are competitive in other sports, for example in women's basketball we reached the NCAA Elite 8 just last season, and we have become very competitive in volleyball. Kind of drastic to leave because of one sport, like junking your car because of a flat tire.

The day we leave the Big 12 is the day I am no longer a fan of Iowa State. I am sure that 60% of the fan base would agree with me.

Terrible thread. Big 12 Rocks.....and we are good at other sports. Back to back titles in MBB this decade....along with other NCAA Tourny appearances....Women's BB is solid......wrestling is always solid.....VB is solid..... Enough with the meltdown in FB.....we are only 2 games in partner.

I agree with what your saying but the figure might be as high as 80% after they take a look at the quality of play...lack of status and everything that goes with downsizing!!!!

Its the big 12 all the way!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
