I'm sorry to say it, but there needs to be some questions on Herman as OC

While I think he is limited with talent at skill positions and at the Quarterback position, our offense was poor last year and even worse this year. I would hope in year two of his system we would be showing progress. I think if anything we've taken steps back this year. I really think some questions need to be asked on his skills as an OC.

We got a great lesson on how to run an up tempo style of offense last weekend. OU got to the ball and before ISU got set defensively, Jones had thrown the ball and the WR was running down field. None of this pausing and checking with the sideline for whatever they're doing there, none of a bunch of song and dance for a 4 yard out pass to Franklin, etc. We absolutely have no rythym to our offense, our QB play is poor to say the least, and I'm not sure we always put our players in position to be successful.

I know alot of you will say we need a new QB, and put all of our miscues on offense on AA's shoulders, but I am suggesting some questions/blame need to be put on Herman's skills as an OC.

For the millionth time, we aren't trying to run an "up-tempo" offense. We are running a "no huddle" offense.

I think once he gets some of his own horses in there things will pick up a bit. I do somewhat agree that it doesn't seem like we're getting the most out of who we do have though.

I agree that it's too early, but I would like to compare our offensive stats from the Chizik era to the Rhoads era. I thought Robert McFarland was a pretty bad offensive coordinator, but in retrospect, I think our offense was just as good those two seasons than it has been the past two. I thought Herman would be able to out-scheme people, but he has definitely not done that. The defense, until the past two games, has definitely been better under Wally Burnham.

I never thought McFarland was a bad coordinator or coach. He was getting better every game IMO.
I still have faith in all the coaches on this staff. Wayyy too early not to.

I think it's fair to assume that Rhoads is asking Herman some questions. The offense has some personnel issues, but there is enough talent to be better than we are.

That being said, in no way is it time to give up on Herman. He is learning along with everyone else.

At least let him get his QB, Barnett or Richardson, in place. This offense starts and finishes through the QB.

Yup, Herman suddenly forgot how to score points when he got to ISU.

Tp put in the word of Rich Rodriguez, he didn't start taking stupid pills when he got here.

Listen, he has less talent here than he did at Rice. He has QBs that aren't as good. He is going against better competetion. Give him a damn break. How long did it take Leach to get his offense going? June Jones still hasn't gotten it fully ramped up. Hell RichRod took 3 years with more talent.

I compare our situation with that of Michigans. Big change, with not the right pieces. Michigan has the name to get those pieces. We don't. We have to develop them. It will take much longer. You give us Tate Forcier next year and our offense would be much better, but not yet a force. We would still need to be good on defense. Just have some damn patience.

Not sure why people don't understand how big of a talent gap we have. You really can't expect a lot better results until we start to upgrade the talent level.

I can't make any promises as to whether or not CPR can get it done from a recruiting standpoint. Obviously Chizik was said to be a good recruiter before he got here and has done well in that regard at Auburn. While he was here however, I don't think he did anything better than what CPR and Mac before him have done.

This is a tough gig, because you have more going against you than for you in the recruiting game.

Hey,

start writing DMac/Chiz giving them thanks for the ****** leftovers.....or follow a different team.

not too difficult.
We have enough playmakers to put the ball in the enzone at least once against OU. ISU O is awful...please don't spin it.

He deserves 1 more year. After three years then it's pretty fair to make a determination on a coordinator. I just wish we spread the field a little bit more. I understand that we want to have a ball control offense and everything but sometimes you do need to take some chances. Especially when you're playing upper level teams like we are. Against OU we played awfully conservative in the first half.

We'll see how things go against Kansas and Colorado. That's a more fair barometer for our guys. Things looked very promising against Tech.

The only question I would have is COULD the offense be more effective by adapting the system to the personnel, I mean -I get that we want to run the spread, but if you have a running QB and some decent running backs and WR's that really don't seem to be able to get separation - maybe we need to scheme to the strengths. I am sure the staff is doing everything possible and I understand you have to have consistency but sometimes you just have to adapt to what you have too.

There is one overriding fact with a new coach building a program, you MUST have stability with your coordinators. Minnesota coach Brewster changed coordinators almost yearly. Net result, no continuity of offense of defense. The result was a mess. Herman is a super young OC, we need to keep him and we'll see the results in time.

Most of our current players were recruited to run a different offensive system. That's a really big part of it.

That said, I'd like to see Herman play to the strengths of the guys we have a little more. Arnaud is a much better passer out of the play action, and rolling to his right (just like Stanzi), but we don't do a lot of it. A-Rob is great in space, but we almost never throw him screens. We have an ex-QB @ WR in Reynolds, and not once have we attempted a reverse pass with him this year.

I feel every week like Herman leaves something on the table, but we shouldn't calling for his head until he fails with his own players.
