if they could get Notre Dame... big if and would be great... If ND would come that would open up alot of schools...

then go after Arkansas, Louisville, or BYU and maybe reach out to Arizona, & ASU..

What about a 14 team conference... 2 divisions of 7...

Play 9 conference games... 6 in division.. 3 cross division... may 1 protected cross division so if you had to split OU and Texas in a north south split.. or if they were in the same division they could create an every yr rivalry between ND and Texas...

just a thought...

Now would definitely be the time to snatch up Louisville. Patino has been voicing his concerns about the conference's 17 basketball teams and I have a feeling whatever Patino wants Louisville gos and gets.

I would think ND wouldn't want a 9 game conference schedule. With their current annual rivalries they would essentially be locked into the same schedule every year or would have to figure out a way to rotate what games they play each year.

If ND would ever join a conference I think that would be a given.. One of the main reasons they don't want to give up their current schedule structure..

But if most of the conferences move to 9 in conference games they will have less of an opportunity to play their current schedule.. schools wont be willing to give ND a home and home or neutral field games..

Louisville and BYU. It's so obvious, it hurts.

This times 20.

People who really think Notre Dame would even consider couldn't be more wrong. The same with Arkansas.

Louisville and BYU are by far the best we could do right now and I think we should ASAP.

I'm gonna take a shot at "competitively balanced" divisions (with protected rivalries in parenthesis) if Louisville and BYU got in.

Also took a shot at names that are, at least, better than Legends and Leaders.

PLAINS DIVISION:
Baylor (Texas A&M)
Brigham Young (Texas Tech)
Kansas (Missouri)
Kansas State (Iowa State)
Oklahoma (Texas)
Oklahoma State (Louisville)

PRAIRIE DIVISION:
Iowa State (Kansas State)
Louisville (Oklahoma State)
Missouri (Kansas)
Texas (Oklahoma)
Texas A&M (Baylor)
Texas Tech (Brigham Young)

That balance of teams is a ton better than the OP methinks.

I am fully aware that Larry Scott did not want any part of Fresno, AFA and Colorado State and just because a school might be in a populous area doesn't mean their are a lot of interested eyeballs who would watch them (e.g. Houston and TCU).

Wouldn't who you are playing have an impact on market impact? It would seem to me that AFA & CSU for example may not have much of a market impact becuase they don't play teams like OU, Texas, aTm etc... maybe if they did play those teams the market impact would be better - just a thought.

I agree Prez lets go out and get Louisville and Brigham Young......

I would like to get back to 12 schools but I don't think you go both east and west. If you go west get invite BYU and SDSU. If you go east go all out and invite Pitt and WVA. Or we could just boot aTm out (get rid of the whiner) and replace with BYU.

Now there's a scenario I haven't seen mentioned all that much. Kinda intriguing, probably not likely, but still intriguing.

I'd like to move Baylor and Louisville. As you show it, that's a division whose cellar we would struggle to escape.

If you get both Pitt and WVA you preserve the "Backyard Brawl" and bring in two strong programs that may change conferences if they both come.

I'd be on board with a WVU/Pitt addition. I'd love to go to a game in Morgantown some time.

Problem with WVU is that it's a great program to add, but there's nothing in the way of market share.
