Nobody is in awe of the exclusive retired jersey club. What is the upside to having the bar set high.

Lipsey is no lock but a big senior season could make it happen. First team all Big 12 and 3rd team all American would make me think he belongs.
And i just don't see under how college bball is now, how ANYONE would ever meet/match the criteria that allegedly exists.

Like Hoiberg...his is up there and that was done right after he was done playing. Compare his stats to Tamin's (as i think Tamin might be one of the last 4 year guys we ever have). And of course throw in the others many have mentioned (Niang, Morris, Ejim, etc).

Again, respect given to those guys who are up there.....but many were of a much different era.

I just like that we can have a "list" of people we want up there...shows we are cranking out great people/players.

It’s nice to enjoy watching the NBA again. I’ve definitely become a Pacers fan. Between THB, SGA, Edward’s and Brunson they have made the NBA enjoyable and competitive again. The new era of stars has more of a competitive style and not entitled.
I don't want to derail the thread so I'll just comment once on this. I enjoy Edwards and Hali's style of game. I don't find the flailing and foul baiting in Brunson's and especially SGA's game enjoyable. They are both good enough to be top of the league players without that ****. Everyone does it a little but when you do it on every contact it is a problem - especially when you think you, and your team, should be able to get away with a hack fest on the other end of the floor.

I won't comment on this further to avoid derailing the thread about Haliburton.

Don't mess with the jersey retirement requirements. Start another way to honor athletes who have significant achievements after leaving Iowa State, whether having graduated or not and whether achievements are in an athletic field or not. In fact, open it to all former students - so George Washington Carver will be an inaugural member of the Cardinal and Gold Ring of Honor. And his picture with a brief history of achievements will be in a special-built facility in CyTown for which there is a nominal charge for admission. Set a maximum number to be admitted each year from review of nominations from anyone and selection by the various colleges and athletic department. Ask major donors to help build the facility - hence, the Brent Blum Cardinal and Gold Ring of Honor!! Let the atrium of the CyTown McFarland Clinic host the Ring of Honor until fund-raising is substantially complete.

How about a Wall of Honor in the concourse of Hilton? And I mean like a 10ft by 10ft display that has pics and memorabilia of them. Sounds great to me and makes sure all the greats are never forgotten. They could put memorabilia in the display. Old jerseys, their professional uniforms, game worn sneakers, etc.... Let the players put things they want in there also. Even stuff like their high school jerseys. It's the best of both worlds. They could even do one coaches like Tim Floyd and Larry Eustachy.

I haven’t read all of the responses, but what did he do at ISU that constitutes him to have his jersey retired? He played a year and a half in a Cyclone uniform. I am glad he’s having success after Iowa State, but his pro career shouldn’t influence if he gets his jersey retired here. I am in the I don’t think he should get his jersey retired, but mainly because I don’t think he did enough while here to deserve it.

Kurt Warner basically played only one year for UNI (because of a bone headed coaching mistake) and was named conference player of the year in the only season he played. I don’t know if UNI has retired his number, but should it?

Edwards already has 3 kids at 23 years old with 3 different women.

It’s an interesting question. On one hand he was only here 2 years. On the other if you are really good (Lottery Pick) you’re only going to be at the college level 1-2 years. He was pretty good as a freshman on a talented team that couldn’t quite bring it together (aside from the Big 12 tourney title).

Surely leading his team to an Eastern Conference title will be sufficient to get his jersey retired by Coach Prime at Colorado.

Not sure.

It's definitely more viable than 2nd team all conference.

I think you could still make a pretty good case for Fred being up there.

During his senior year Big 8 ranks:
P/g: 3rd
Reb: 8th
Ast: 15th
Stl: 12th
2p%: 2nd
3p%: 2nd
FT%: 1st
FG: 4th
3FG: 2nd
FT: 2nd
Min/g: 1st
All Big 8 First Team (AP and Coaches)
AP Honorable Mention All-America

That's just his senior year.
I don’t think so. At least compared to some others not up there. Keep in mind it was an 8 team league. His Sr year there were Co Conf PoY, and he wasn’t one of them.

Haven't been an NBA fan since 90s, but Hali and this Pacers team has sucked me back in. So fun to watch them play TEAM ball and DEFENSE. So excited to see if they can win it all.
I wouldn’t get too excited… If the pacers manage to win a game I’ll be happy

If it were up to me? No. Recognize him in another way.
