There should be some type of off campus ceremony that we honor those athletes that made an impact but didn't graduate. Perhaps something that attracts the common man? Cy's Roost Hall of Fame ceremony? TipTop Larry Eustachy Wall of Fame event? Welch Ave Station walk of fame star?

If you are named to an All American team you should have your jersey in the rafters

Wegner, Thompson, Abdul-Aziz and Grayer are already up there.

Fizer, Tinsley, Ejim, Kane, Niang and Monte should join them. The fact that our jersey retirements "stop" in 1995 with Hoiberg is a joke. With all that's been accomplished since then; its a slap in the face to those players.

The criteria for jersey retirements at ISU needs to change because DI athletics has changed significantly.

So if someone plays for ISU for less than two full seasons and is 2nd team all Big 12 his 2nd year, do you think his number should be retired?

People saying it’s should be based on play here should consider that he was good here just hurt and playing for a coach who was also hurt.

Not accomplishing enough as a basketball player at Iowa State is a great reason to not retire Haliburton's jersey.

Holding him (or anyone else) back only because they didn't graduate would be absurd.

I also think pro success can factor but is just significantly less impactful than success at Iowa State.

Tyrese is already close to being retired level of success. Assuming he continues his pro career for the next ten years you have to retire his jersey.

Seems crazy to think he could end up having his Pacers jersey retired if he keeps up this level of play.

Some Pacers fans are already taking about greatest Pacer ever if they win the championship this year. Probably a bit of a stretch due to the desperation for a championship.

A rethinking of the standards might be due to being in an era where people can just take your players away from you.

Guessing Hali (& Niang or any other guys mentioned) care a lot less about it than most of you complaining. Similar to uniforms, the old guys are out of touch with what the players actually like/care about.

I look at the retiring of the jersey based upon more than just the # of years at IA State. Look at how he reps & supports Iowa State still to this day! He has been a great ambassador for our university! Now, that said, Tyrese cannot have his jersey retired BEFORE Niang!! Niang's jersey needs to be in the rafters ASAP!

Professional success shouldn't factor into collegiate number retirements. Hali was at ISU for 2 years. I can't see his number being retired.

With that said, I would like to see Ejim and Niang jerseys retired. And eventually Lipsey
Exactly this. You can hang a specific banner for an NBA ship or gold medal, but numbers hanging in the rafters are for accomplishments while at ISU.

I feel that ISU players that get their numbers honored or retired should be at least a 3 or 4 year player at ISU.
I don't think there should be a year limit. I also don't think graduation should matter.

I wouldn't hang Haliburton's jersey, though. He just didn't accomplish enough in his time at Iowa State.

I would hang Tinsley's jersey, though. Big 12 POY, 2nd team all american. That gets it done even though its 2 years.

I'd retire the following right now:
Fizer
Tinsley
Ejim
Niang
Morris

If I had to follow Pollard's rules, Ejim should be retired this year, no doubt about it.
